Do you know if Wine in a box is decent?!

Question:

Do you know if Wine in a box is decent?

Does it keep fresh long?

Answers:
there was actually a yahoo news story on this a few days back. more and more winemakers are going to begin offer different wines ina box version. box wine stays fresh days longer than a traditional cork bottle wine. the brand blackbox win is really good. it's one of the more expensive ones, but it's good. cab and chard are my 2 faves. also the real sangria in a box is actually better than when it comes out of the bottle. but sangria really isn't wine. but it's good.

its indecent, cover it up before someone sees it.

Apparently even in the wine industry it does not have the taboo it once did.

Just stay away from White Zinfandel ... bottle or box.

The more expensive ones are much better than the cheapest.
Here in Cali., we have choices, depending on where you live.
And yes, it does keep well. Great for the occasional drinker.

The only brand with acceptable wines (to me) is Blackstone. All the rest are pretty bad. Stay away from White Zinfandel in all forms

I've had some decent boxed wine before -- I've also had some real bad boxed wine (but that was a long time ago). It does keep fresh, because the foil bag keeps a vacuum (it keeps the oxygen out).

Some good US vintners are talking about boxing up more of their really good wines. Some good french wines are already being boxed, so it is a trend of the future that good wine will come in a box, instead of a bottle.

.

yes it is actually quite good.
it will keep for about a week or so as long as it is covered.

Nothing wrong with it; unless you want to make a good impression; then bottled wine is the way to go. Box wine will be fine for a longer period; as long as you keep it refrigirated....

Personally, I like it. Admittedly, I'm not a wine connoisseur though. Although I have had some wonderful wines, I've also had some bad ones. I was given some boxed wine at a party that I enjoyed so I've kept a box in my fridge ever since. It's so easy to just turn the "tap" and get a glass of wine, no fussing around with corks or trying to stop up the bottle once it is open. Like most food and drink, if you like it, then it's good. The guests you serve it to may not like it and then you have to decide if you want to serve something else or let them deal with it ;-)

Like in all wines, there are good ones and bad ones. If it's a good wine going in the box, it'll be a good wine coming out. Bad, cheap wine going in a box is bad, cheap wine coming out also. Try and find a wine that is bottled and boxed. If you like it from the bottle, it'll be good from the box also.

As stated earlier, it does stay fresh longer after opening because oxygen is kept out of the bag.

Depends on the label. More high quality vintners are going into box wines. It's a hot new trend. I just saw on the news the other night that it's good for up to six weeks!

Just don't buy Franzia, or white zin.

the juicebox wine trend will only grow....corks are a thing of the past...there is a wine called french rabbit that is a decent inexpensive wine and is sold in 1 litre boxes....personally it has become my house wine....as to freshness it has a perfectly good resealable cap and keeps better than most corks unless you have a re-corking device.......

actually some of the better wines are coming thru in the box.And in actuality they will keep longer as you pour wine from the box the bag inside compresses with it keeping it fresher. to much oxygen can be wines enemy. When i open bottles of wine if I do not finish the bottle I pour it into a smaller bottle.

Stay away from the boxed wine! I mean it stays fresh but so do bottles.. its alcohol it lasts forever.

Well, it depends on how fussy you are, and what brand you buy. In general, more expensive wine is better and wouldn't come in a box. You could probably find some that would taste okay.

Yeah, it's in an airtight bag. I had some that I opened in March, then my mom took it, and gave it back to me in October. It tasted just as good as it did in March.

No!!!!
