Which Patron Tequila?!

Question: I am looking to buy a bottle tonight with some co-workers, and we want a good shooting tequila. I have had Patron in the past, and really enjoyed it. So I would like to know which the best is for my application, which would be a smooth shooting tequila. I am partial to the Silver which I have had before, but have not tried the Anejo, Burdeos or Reposado. I'm not looking for something to make a Margarita with here...

Shooting tequila is something you do in college or with really BAD tequila like Cuervo or Sauza where you want to get past the nasty flavor quickly.

If you are buying a quality tequila like Patron, or most of the 100% agave tequilas, shooting is a waste, as you don't get to appreciate the flavor.

If you must shoot it, use a blanco as others suggested, as that's less of a waste than reposado or anejo.

In general the longer it's aged, the smoother (in flavor) and darker (in color) it gets. Blancos are not aged at all. Reposados about 6 months (more in some cases), and anejos about 18 months (again, more in some cases).

If you were going to sip the tequila, which I recommend, then trying an anejo is a must, despite what the guy above me said. More like a nice cognac or nice bourbon than tequila. Aging does change the flavor, but ANY tequila afficianado appreciates aged tequila, and anyone who says otherwise is probably selling something.

If money is no object, get Herradura Selecion Suprema. Don't junk it up with salt, but a little lime is OK. Straight up is nice, but on the rocks is OK as long as it doesn't sit and get watered down (incentive to drink it quick).

If, at $30/shot, that is not in your price range, try any 100% agave anejo and enjoy. The best brands out there, for the money are:

Dos Lunas
Cazadores
Don Julio
Herradura
Corzo (that is NOT the same as Cuervo)
Centinilla
Cabo Wabo

Patron is good too, but they spend more $$ on marketing than everyone else combined (hence that's why it's often the only premium one people talk about), which drives the price up. You can get better for less.

Silver is always good. I just tried some of that Tarantula last week. that was some of the best Tequila I've ever tried. i highly suggest it.

I prefer Anejo, personally. If you want a full flavored tequilla (tastes like agave) go with a darker tequilla. I really like 1800, it's smooth and tastes delicious, makes mixed drinks taste delicious.

Silver is the way to go. I won't do shots with Anejo or Reposado. Silver is perfect for that.

Patron or Don Julio make the best tequilas blancos (that the average person can get ahold of).

I had Patron Platinum (I'm not a tequila fan but it was smooth)... I really liked it.. more pricey but worth it...

silver all the way, nothing like it for my taste

I'd have to go with Silver... thats just about the only tequila that I would drink w/o the salt and lime... its that good

Casa Noble Crystal is the best.

We call it Crystal because we believe it is superior to all silver tequilas. It's in a class by itself.
