I found 3 bottles of asti-spumate in a house i bought in the basement?!

Question:

I found 3 bottles of asti-spumate in a house i bought in the basement?

they are probably from the late 70's or early 80's, there is no vintage year but there are No. on the label

i have a asti-gancia-spumante No. 56718
a miafiore asti No. 818910
and a Martini and Rossi Asti Spumante No. 912916

does spumate go bad, they have been stored all these years in a cool dark place on their side so the corks are still good

do you think id get sick trying them???

Answers:
Pop the cork and smell it before you taste. That way if it is vinegar or flawed you will not have to put it in your mouth.

Asti Spumante is a low alcohol wine so it may not age too well.

You won't get sick, but they may have gone to vinegar. Try a taste and see what you think.

They should be fine. You could contact the company and find the dates on them if you would like.

Bottoms Up!

cHEers hick up!!

No, you won't get sick. They might be out of fizz by now tho.

You will be fine. If you pour the sparkling wine into a glass and the bubbles rise making a thin foam then the wine is fine. If there is any debris in the glass then it isn't OK to drink. the worst that will happen is that the wine will have turned sour and the the carbonation will have gone stale.
The vintages aren't collectibles so don't worry about drinking something expensive.

Were the bottles stored on the side to allow the alcohol to remain in contact with the cork? If so, then give it a try.

If they were stored upright, they have probably turned to wine-vinegar. Asti is pretty inexpensive - if they are bad - go to the store and treat yourself to a new one!
