Drinkers of yahoo answers - do you know about conditioned taste aversion?!

Question:

Drinkers of yahoo answers - do you know about conditioned taste aversion?

conditioned taste aversion is a psycholoy term where after someone throws up something, they refues to touch it ever again. my psych prof′s husband threw up some tequila and gets queasy just thinking about this drink, and refuses to ever drink it again. it seems to me though, that on the whole, the principle of conditioned taste aversion does not work with alcohol like it does with food. i have conditioned taste aversion to many many foods, and dont have it for liquors that have come back up on me. those of you who have drunk to the point of vomiting (dont deny that you ever have) tell me if conditioned taste aversion works for you or not?

Answers:
I think it really has to depend on the person, and perhaps the level of sickness the liquor gave them. I know some people who have it, and others who don't. My friend once threw up from malibu and said she would never drink it again. Well, I just did shots of it with her a few days ago. Similarly, I once threw up from Taco Bell, and while I did not eat it for at least two years afterward, I have had it recently.

On the other hand, I do know many people who are like your professor's husband as well, so like I said early, I think it depends on the individual psyche.

gross

actually--it does, lol
if it is something that I get totally sick-like hangover for days- off of-yes I'll never touch it again.

It happened to me with kamakaze's--they were the lemon flavored ones--I havent them in over 10 years--and I can not drink any kind of lemon flavored soda-(sprite, 7up) because of it.

blech ,lol--Im getting sick just typing this.

I have been sick on a few types of liquors [I know, I know, I was young and stupid, what can I say?] but I have never had "conditioned taste aversion"

the very first time i drank to get sick i drank gin, and i can not drink gin or even stand the smell of it, it really makes me sick.

however there are numerous other times i have drank to the point of vomiting and can drink any of that stuff again and again, other than gin, i sometimes may not drink that particular liquor the next time i drink for thinking of the taste and sickness, but sometimes i do just get back up and drink the same thing again right away.

The one time I threw up from drinking I was drinking just about everything under the sun. But I'll gladly drink all of those things again.

yes it did. i drank a fifth of parrot bay on my eighteenth b-day (now 21) and i can't even look at it.

your teacher team is correct and it is all in your mind, most everyone has that first alcohol that they got sick on and for there rest of there lives will never forget it, tell your teacher if he would like answers in life questions to come to my bar and i will help him I have been a practicing bar psychologist since 1982. Most minds can be condition to change. In Santa Cruz Ca at the bars we have a thing called linguistic programing, were the students at UCSC that are mostly arts and computer people can't pick up on women so the do linguistic programing it is on the web check it out. myself I use the old pick up lines like "Do you melt butter for a living or is that just your past time"

oh yea....got wasted and sick off of white russians about 4 years ago and haven't touched one since...I couldn't look at milk for 2 weeks afterwards either.....

The few items I've gotten sick with have put me off for quite some time but, I've been able to get back to them. So, I guess I've been temporarily averted but certainly not permanently. It's too bad about his tequila prob. There are some really good ones out there.
