What's in a martini?!

Question:

What's in a martini?

Answers:
Traditional Martini is Gin and a light touch of dry Vermouth garnished with an olive.

However, the current trend is to make "Martinis" using Vodka and different flavors.

MARTINI is a brand of Italian vermouth, named after the Martini & Rossi Distilleria Nazionale da Spirito de Vino, in Turin.

From within the Distilleria emerged Alessandro Martini, Luigi Rossi and Teofilo Sola. They changed the company name to Martini, Sola & Cia in 1863 and it was in 1879 that the Sola family sold its interests to the remaining partners who renamed the company Martini & Rossi, as it stands today.

here are a bunch or recipes for you!!

Depends how you get it done. Vodka and Vermouth poured and stirred with ice or shaken is one way. There are several ways to make a martini.

The martini is a cocktail traditionally made with gin and dry white vermouth, though in recent years substituting vodka for gin has become more popular than the original recipe. It is often described as being "crisp" or "astringent." Over the years, the martini has become perhaps the most well-known mixed alcoholic beverage. H. L. Mencken once called the martini "the only American invention as perfect as the sonnet", and E. B. White called it "the elixir of quietude". It is also the proverbial drink of the one-time "three-martini lunch" of business executives, now largely abandoned as part of companies' "fitness for duty" programs. The martini is a cocktail traditionally made with gin and dry white vermouth, though in recent years substituting vodka for gin has become more popular than the original recipe. A real, honest-to-God martini is a mystery.

I did find some history about it (below).

Remember this quote, though!
"I like to drink martinis. Two at the most. Three I’m under the table, four I’m under the host."

While opinions differ, the modern day Dry Martini consists of Gin and a varying amount of dry white Vermouth (season to taste).
An olive, a twist, or a cocktail onion are all acceptable as a garnish.

The most detailed historical claim begins with a cocktail named the Martinez which was created around 1862.
This particular drink of the time called for 4 parts red, sweet Vermouth to 1 part Gin, garnished with a cherry.

The first version included aromatic bitters and Old Tom Gin, which was very sweet and incorporated a strong Juniper flavor.

The transformation into what is considered a modern Martini happened gradually.
First the Old Tom Gin was replaced with London Dry. Orange Bitters took the place of the aromatic bitters. Afficianados began to replace the red Vermouth with a white, dry Vermouth.
The proportions of the drink eventually became equal parts and soon the Dry Martini appeared, olive included.
