Whne a recipe for a cocktail says...?!

Question:

Whne a recipe for a cocktail says...?

that i need jack daniels, do i NEED a jack daniels? or can i just use an other brand of whiskey?

and does this go for other alcohols too?

Answers:
Usually the more expensive the better tasteing but you can use variations as long as it is the same type!

Jack Daniels is whiskey, so you could substitute other whiskey [not Scotch whiskey or Irish whiskey though, those are different things].

If a recipe calls for Stoli vodka, you can use any vodka you wish ... and so forth

Most times it doesn't matter.. I bartend in a VERY busy nightclub and sometimes when I run out of jack daniels or I'm closer, I'll just use Jim Beam.. u can hardly taste the difference but sometimes it also depends on how sophisticated the palate is of the drinker. Also you have to be careful with Vodkas because a lot of times, I can tell if someone does not use the vodka I requested because some are distilled from potatoes, while others are from rye or wheat and if you drink as much vodka as I do, you can tell!
