Sunlight is the enemy of red wine. To help protect the properties of the wine it is put into green bottles.

There are two reasons. First and most important is that many red wines "throw" a dark sediment which would be pig ugly in white glass. Second is that light can bleach the wine and again cosmetics drive the package.

Green is also not the only color used for reds just the most prevalent. In some regions white wine is also packaged in green or "golden" glass.

mostly it was not to show the sediments in it most wineries have gotten better and that process, so, it is just a tradition now

Wine needs to be kept in a clean, dark, damp place ... Green shade prevents sunshade & keeps it more cool.

To protect it from UV rays!

It keeps the light from peircing the wine. Light over a long period can ruin a good red wine.
