Some of my favourite reds are Pomerol, Pessac-Loegnan and Saumur Champigny. A lovely, not too expensive white is Cheverny.
While forum like this is a good guide for you to see which wine you may want to try, keep in mind that everyone have different favorite.
Without knowing you, I will divide this into 3 categories based on the price:
* up to $30 - Red (Robert Mondavi Napa cabernet $25); White (Robert Mondavi Napa Fume Blanc $15)
* $30-75 - Red (Pride Cabernet Cabernet Sauvignon $66); White (Far Niente Chardonnay $55)
* $75 and more - Red (Revana Cabernet $105); White (Dom Perignon $160)
Chianti- Ruffino Ducale Gold, red. Delicious with meat.
