Calorie Counting with Alcohol...?!

Question:

Calorie Counting with Alcohol...?

My friend thinks that drinking a Rum and Diet Coke has the lowest calories of any alcoholic beverage. Is this true? Yes, hard liquor is low in calories, but isn't the sugar intake just as bad as higher calories? So, I guess my overall question is this......what is the alcoholic beverage (shot, beer, mixed drink, etc.) with the lowest calories?

Answers:
Generally speaking, hard alcohol and a no calorie mixer (like Water, Club Soda and Diet Drinks) are considered to be the lowest calorie intake amongst any alcoholic drink. Your typical shot of distilled, 80 proof alcohol is 100 calories, no carbs. The problem is, it's 'Empty Calories' ... Calories of absolutely no nutritional value.

To give you a gage of the calorie intake, here are some ballpark figures on calories of popular drinks.

Rum and Diet : 100 Calories
Vodka and Cranberry : 220 calories
Beer: Anywhere from 190 (light low carb beers) to 300 (unfiltered sweet beers)
Margaritas: 450 calories, minimum.
Pina Coladas: 600 calories and up
Strawberry Daquires: It's not uncommon for a strawberry to clock in at 800 plus calories, with the addition of simple syrup (sugar water), strawberrys, sweet and sour mix, and whip cream.

If you want to watch your calorie intake, but still drink, I recommend the following:

Cut Soda's out of your diet. If your not drinking booze, your drinking water, black coffee, or Iced Tea. Lose as many empty calories as possible.

Limit Drinking to 2-3 nights a week. On the two night a drink plan, you can drink 8 drinks a night, on the 3 night a week plan, no more then 4 drinks a night. Your just about at the same nutritional level, and your giving your body time to recover from the drinking. Also, at least 1 day in between each drinking day.

On drinking nights, load up on protein. Protein is going to make your body fill fuller, possibly limiting your need for more drinks.

Hope that helps. Hope you don't mind the extra advice.

Actually, alcohol has a considerable number of calories per gram -- about 6. As it happens, most alcoholic drinks contain about the same amount of pure alcohol -- roughly an ounce, or around 170 calories, per drink. Calories from additives such as sugar are extra.

The rum and diet cola has around 110 calories. If you are on a diet any alcolhol is empty calories and will not help you to lose weight. A beer typically has 90 - 120 calories per 12oz. serving, wine around 90 and liquor by the shot 105 - 125. If you add regular soda to those add another 85 calories and 120 more if using fruit juice.

hahaha Way better question than mine. Just read your answer to my question and couldn't email you on it, so i'm violating some kind of yahoo code of conduct but whatever. Wanted to say thanks for what you said, your answer was perfect, im suprised you knew i was required to see that dude. Most civilians wouldn't know that.
Congratulations on your academic progress so far as well as what you'll probably achieve in the future.
And now, for the answer that justifies my writing here!
:::::drumrolllllllll:::::::::

The one right after the one that made your head swerve and your tounge sweaty. That one has the lowest calories because that's the one you're about to reintroduce into the world in the form of a projectile. No longer in the gut = 0 calories.

Thank you for your time.

All of the above posts have merit so I will not repeat them but as for the lowest in calories.....Drink Jagermeister shots. There are only 73 calories in an ounce .!
