Can I have allergic reactions to wine?!

Question:

Can I have allergic reactions to wine?

I have noticed that when I drink red wine, especially syrahs, I sometimes have adverse reactions. I even go as far as throwing up. I don't over drink, so I was wondering what else could be happening. Is it a particular grape I am reacting to?

Answers:
I've known people who had issues with the sulfites in wine. I know some wineries specifically make sulfite-free wines (or at least "no sulfites added") -- you might want to try one and see if you have the same reaction. Here's a page that discusses various problems one might encounter with sulfites:

yes its probably most definately grapes.u might wanna watch out for grapes altogether an wine.

Could be the grapes, but do you have any similar reactions eating straight grapes? What about allergies to the alchohol itself? Perhaps the tannins in the wine? I'm sure there can be allergic reactions to the wine. I had a friend who, for allergy reasons, not consume grain alchohols, but could wine. Maybe you're just the opposite of that?

are you on medication? if you are on a MAOI inhibiter then your body may be reacting to it. also if you just had a child recently and are on medications to dry up breast milk, this would also cause complications. otherwise i would say that it is just something that your body doesn't react well to. if you dont have a problem drinking a beer or some other kind of cocktail then my guess it is the particular brand of wine. by the way although it is illegal, some people still use antifreeze to speed up the fermentation process of wine. that's bad
