Never tried wine before, what's a good one to start off with?!
Answers: I have had alcoholic beverages before, but have not tasted wine yet. I do not like to taste the alcohol too much, so if I mix my own drinks, I add lots of fruit juice. What is a good wine I can try that does not have a strong alcohol taste, and also is sort of fruity? I am thinking something strawberry or anything berry flavored. Nothing super sweet either, and something that's available for purchase at most popular liquor stores?
Why not sweet? If you do not like the "alcohol" taste I would encourage you to try sweet wines like zinfandel. Most zinfendal's are fruity with only a slight hint of an alcohol flavor. They are pleasantly fruity like juice but not overly sweet in my opinion. You would probably also like a pinot grigio and shiraz. I would encourage you to go to a local wine making place and taste some. Most wine making places or places that carry local wines will let you taste a fair bit and they will give you a sheet to write down what you thought of each one. This will save you money. Nothing like spending 20. on a bottle of wine and pouring it down the drain after one sip. Your state store or big liquor stores are not very customer freidnly or wine savy. You will have much better luck with a smaller local place.
you need an unwooded Chardonnay or Mateus rose
tanin or tannic wines have been in contact with the oak casks and is a sophisticated taste not for a wine newbie
for that reason say away from the reds too
Well for a white wine:
Alsace Pinot Blanc
or Gewurtztraminer
and for red: Carmenére ( a grape variety thought extinct until recently) or C?tes de rhones.
I think a good starting wine would be a German Liebfraumilch It is sweetish with a very fruity taste. You are right some dessert wines are just too sweet. Some fruit beers are a good alternative as are certain ciders or perrys,But as i live in England I'm spoilt for choice,Hope i helped, any more queries i'd be happy to help
to get the taste of wine, try rosé. It's fruity and not very strong tasting.
After that I'd recommend Shiraz.
Most pallets for first time wine drinkers seem to enjoy lighter fruity and slightly sweet varieties, a good Riesling, or Sauvingnon Blanc would be a start.
The progress tends to be but not always to dryer white, then light reds, heavier reds and the finally desert wines.
I'd recommend something of moderate quality to start cheap wines are cheap for a reason
umberto fiorre's masc'ato is excellent!!!!!!! you can find it at hyvee wine and spirit store
Arbor Mist Blackberry Merlot
Fruity wines are the muscats and Moselle's or a fruity lexia.
Then you can progress to the Riesling and then the chardonnay which is a lot drier.
After you have got the hang of those tastes, then you can go to the red wines
Hope this helps and have a great day/night!!!
K
Lindemans an Yellow Tail wines from Australia.
I only recently started drinking wine and I started with Reisling (J Lohr) and I also liked the Sauvignon Blanc (Carols) You may like Moscato although it is on the sweeter side . I dont have a prefrence in the moscatos' but Field of dreams is pretty good.
Even though you say you do not want something super sweet the drinks you are making are sweet because they have fruit sugars in them.
I would recommend a Gewurztraminer not too sweet and has nice characteristics for a wine newbie.
