Rum....where do the calories come from?!
Answers: Ok. So if Rum has 100 calories from a serving size of 1.5 fl oz jigger but ZERO Total Carbohydrates, which I think means no sugar but I am not sure...... where do the calories come from?
the calories come from the alchohol....1 gram of alcohol has 7 calories (where 1 gram of protein has 4, 1 gram of carbs has 4, and 1 gram of fat has 9)
you don't need carbs to have calories...
must be from the sugar
it comes from most anything u eat, but water or same diet sodas
There are sugars in all alcohol; not sure why it would say zero sugar.
I thought rum had tons of sugar
Not sure all I know is diet coke and rum no carbs!
carbs and sugar are different, most booze is full of it
it is made from molasses.
Rum is made from Molasses.
The calories come from the Molasses
Rum is made from Sugar Cane, so yes there is sugar in it, and that is where most of the calories come from.
The alcohol that we drink is actually ethanol. I won't get too in depth with the science, but basically a sugar has been converted into an alcohol, which means that it's not truly a sugar any more, but it does still behave similarly. One of those similarities is that it does still provide the body with "calories" to burn.
Side note: I always thought it was funny to hear people order mixed drinks with a diet cola. The alcohol in that mixed drink is loaded with so many calories that the "diet" cola really makes no difference at all. It's rather pointless.
sugar you need alot of sugar to make any alcoholic beverage.
