How to distinguish between wines that are sweet and not sweet?!

Question: is there anyway to distinguish just by looking at the bottles?

Just get to know your varietals.

Also, anything labeled as a fortified wine tends to be sweet. Port, for example.

Kosher wines tend to be sweet, also.

The vast majority of wines are dry, that is not sweet. There are some dry wines which are sweeter than others, though.

Riesling is fairly sweet for a dry table wine. Red wines are drier than whites in almost all cases. Higher alcohol table wines should be drier, but all fortified wine is high percent (17%+) and that is usually sweet.

the darker the whites the sweeter then tend to be.theres no fixed science only by taste.enjoy!

Wines vary quite a bit. Research wines at your local wine store. I enjoy this store www.totalwine.com

Its more the kind that tells you. If your drinking red wine and you dont like it sweet like me than stay away from Merlot and Shiraz. The best red wine to me is Pinot Noir

brut = dry
sec = sweet
