If you were an alcholic, how would you try to quit, besides AA?!

Question: What works for one person, might not work for you. It's all based on who you are as an individual, how much you drink and why you're drinking.

Both my uncle and my father are recovering alcoholics. My uncle quit cold turkey, which is really difficult. My father backed off the harder stuff by drinking beer. Now, he's down to wine coolers.

You can't with out some sort of support group to start.

Find something to do with your time and have friends who support you in your decision to quit. That is your life line right there.

AA is the best way to do it but otherwise, get some reading materials on the subject of alchoholism and read them. They can help.

Try to find out how they do it in europe
in the U.S most people go back to the bottle

My bf's doctor told him that there is now a medication out to help get off alcohol. It eases the cravings while you're trying to quit. He said it worked for him, and he doesn't drink near as much as he used to.

There's a medication called Antabuse that makes drinking alcohol very very unpleasent and is highly successful in helping you quit, where as AA is not successful at all.

Edit: Yeah, AA has helped tens of thousands, of the millions upon millions of people who have used it. It has a less than 10% success rate. Yay for those people it worked for, but I would say its far from successful.

Good grief - AA has helped tens of thousands.Look it up.

Remember to "Do the next right thing".
Remember that wherever you go, there you are.
Release the pain you drink to ease by understanding that those who caused it did what they had in them to do, as this was all they knew how to do.Evolution takes time..
But the alcoholic can't beat the clock because the drug attacks the brain and organs.Make a decision-stop!

Fall in love with someone who will leave you if you do not quit.
