If you intend to purchase it yourself, I'd stay away from hard liquor. Good stuff isn't cheap and cheap stuff isn't any good. Plus it's too easy to wind up with some obnoxiously drunk guests. A selection of beer and wine will let your guests enjoy some alcohol without getting drunk. Beer is usually 2 - 4% alcohol while wines are 8-12%.

? For beer, stay away from the really cheap stuff. The larger stores often have sales on national brands by the case. For a really large group, check prices on kegs, which can be very economical. (1 to 3 cans or bottles per guest - some won't drink any, others will drink several. Bottled or canned beer keeps for 3-4 months if unopened.)

? For wine buy 1.5 liter bottles of merlot, pinot noir, or shiraz for reds, and pinot grigio or chardonnay for white. (1 bottle per 3-5 guests) Buy only 1 bottle of white for every 3 or 4 reds, as most people these days drink red wine. Some very good but inexpensive brands are Yellowtail from Australia or Barefoot, Beringer, or Columbia Crest from USA. (Unopened wine will keep several months at room temperature or several years in a cool cellar or basement.)

Initially, It's hard to know how many guests will prefer beer and how many will prefer wine. For summer parties, I usually buy more beer and in cold weather more wine, but your mileage may vary. If you have leftovers, they will keep for next time or personal use. (Except for kegs, which must be returned to reclaim deposit.)

domestic beer
a whiskey / coke combo (get diet version and sprite too)
vodka oj or mary mixer

Usually when having a large group of ppl you should say it's a BYOB(bring your own bottle/bring your own booze)
It can become very very expensive trying to have something that everyone will enjoy
Your safe bet is to buy some beer..24 bottles*
and for liquor I guess Rye and Vodka are two safe bets
(rye and coke/or rye and gingerale)
Vodka (and orange juice, cranberry juice, 7-up)

I would tell ppl it's a BYOB* just have a case of beer on hand

make a jungle juice

Get two types of beer, light and then a darker beer, then get a bottle of vodka and a bottle of rum, then some mixers, like sodas, crandberry juice, orange juice, and some lemons and limes...also a few bottles of red wine and white wine.

VODKA AND ORANGE JUICE... OR MAILBU AND PINEAPPLE JUICE.. BOTH CHEAO AND VERY GOOD

BYOB is the general rule...everyone brings what they want. It would cost a mint to supply everyone.

A keg of cheap beer, and if anyone wants something else, they can bring it themselves!

I would be easier if I knew how many people you had coming over. You should start with the basics!

Vodka (add w/ cran, orange juice)
Whisky
Rum (add coke etc...)
Different Beers
Red and White wine.

Hope it helps!

Get the basic well brand liquors, vodka, rum, gin, tequila, a whiskey or bourbon. Have your basic mixers, coke, sprite, or 7-up, or ginger ale, triple sec. Lime juice, and grenadine, and sweet sour mix. The basic juices, OJ, PJ, Cranberry, and maybe grapefruit, you are set, you can make any bar drink well brand there is! That is a basic bar set-up, and of course your garnish tray, cherries, lemons, limes, and maybe orange slices, tooth picks or drink spears for the garnishes, you can cut them like a bar does to go on the rim, or fancy them up with an umbrella.
Even with the basic 4 white liquors you can make anything and even a PJ punch, and most traditional shots as well. Unless you want to go fancy, if it is mostly MEN you are serving? Then I think beer is a better bet, or a pony keg. MGD is a inexpensive domestic beer that most like, although a bud or bud-light usually pleases most, and if you are on a limited budget maybe wine coolers or flavored wine for ladies. It also depends on the type of people coming.
The BYOB is a good idea too, and have the mixers there 4 everyone. There are many ideas, but I would not spend a lot of money, and don't leave the bottles out for people to make their own drinks!!!! It gets wasted, and people will set their cups down and go make another (I hate that!) If you set it up in pitchers pre-made is the Best idea.
Like have a 2 quart pitcher of Long island Iced Tea, or rum and coke, or screw drivers, etc.. a PJ in a watermelon is cool too, with some other fruit added, top off with 151 rum or ever-clear and you won't need much at all to get a whole lot of them drunk!
Just remember don't let anyone leave your house driving if they are tanked, you can be held responsible! under the laws. If you want some more ideas message me, and I can post a list, and edit.
But really I would not buy TOP shelf Alcohol for friends for a party, that's a lot spent and a lot gets wasted!
The aristocrat is the cheapest well brand for vodka and rum. A few schnapps too maybe for chilled shots or make some jello shooters, they go a long way too! Cheers! Have fun!

It would be hard to please everyone in the party..but I can help you.
A large punch bowl with Two 1.5lt bottle of Chardonnay...
2 16 oz of Fruit cocktail and triple sec or Simple syrup ( simple syrup is 1/2 water 1/2 sugar)
Mix all together
Get some bottle beer ON SALE....
and just a 1/2 gallon of Vodka and cranberry juice.
That will work out for everyone.
