Is is possible to be an alcholic and still drink?!

Question:

Is is possible to be an alcholic and still drink?

Answers:
I suppose that depends on your views when it comes to "alcoholism."
The "12-steppers" and other religious groups out there will tell you: "No... absolutely not!.... an addict is an addict..... it's just recovery... you're never CURED."

Do you see it as a true addiction? Even another taste will send one spiraling down into the same disasterous lifestyle that made one admit to being an "alcoholic" to begin with.

Do you see it as a matter of self-control? Does one have the ability to have just ONE drink? Are there other physical/emotional/psychologic... reasons behind that addicition?

There are "addictive personalities" and then there are "addicts"..... it's up to the individual to make that assessment for themselves.

An alcoholic drinks. A recovering alcoholic doesn't.

well if that was how it worked we wouldnt really have any alcoholism in the first place.. right?

Depends if you let your alcoholism get out of contro, if thats the case no. i just think some peolple are so weak and dont have any self control and let it get out of hand.

Obviously it is possible, because there are plenty of alcoholics who do still drink. Is it healthy, is it safe? That answer is no. Drinking while trying to recover from alcoholism is like going to a methadone clinic and snorting heroin during lunch - not a good idea. I suggest you seek professional help... Hope this helps.

Drink is what alcoholics do. Recovering alcoholics try and refrain.

That is a drunk question.

Sure!

Active alchohollics still drink. Recovering alcholics do not.
If you are an alchoholic- one drink is too many and a thousand isn't enough.

um... alcoholics do drink!!!

Only if you know that you have a problem and you are weening down instead of stopping cold turkey. Good luck and best wishes.

i agree with edgar. i know people who used to be real idiots when they drank cause they drank way too much and now they still drink but manage to keep control of themselves.

Functional Alcoholic is a phrase i've heard thrown around. Basically a person who drinks a lot but doesn't let it get in the way of their ability to function in life. But, I don't think it's a real phrase. Basically, we have all become arm chair psychologist and want to feel like their is a bad reason for the things we do, that is not related to ourselves. How about, you just enjoy to drink? I know I do. If you think you have a problem, see a doctor. But, it's always good to get extra points of view on a subject like this.

of course, u only have a problem if u don't admit it

No, that is a total impossibility. Like they say about alcoholics, one drink is too many and a thousand is never enough.
