Whats the actual health benefits of drinking alcohol?!
Answers: i rarely drink and when i do go out i hardly touch anything just wondering if health wise a few glasses of wine/vodka etc has any benefits to the body?
I am in my eighties and have always had a small brandy every night....and that must have done some good as I have never been to the Doctors for over fifty years. I eat well, always out in my car and have just come back from the USA. I went to australia just before christmas and came back yesterday from usa. You cant beat it...enjoy life and you grow old feeling young..
Red wine has cardio-protective flavanoids in which, when one has just a glass a day, can be good for ones heart.
a pint of guinness is good for you, has lots of iron in it. too bad its so disgusting
Red wine is good for the heart.
Everything else just ruins your liver.
But I don't mind...
One or two drinks can help you relax and get de-stressed from the days events, so thats another good health benefit.
Alcohol makes Me more handsome.
as far as I know a galss of red wine (and I mean a small glass, 125ml, not the 250ml plus the bars sell you) is good for your blood and circulation and can help you live longer.
As far as vodka and beer etc go, there are no known benefits unless you count the reduced anxiety as one. Though if its too much your drinking, any reduced anxiety will be out weighed by the liver damage.
Dont drink the wine all at once, one maybe 2 (small) glasses is enough, if your drinking several, then its too much and the benefits are no longer viable.
Well if you stay very drunk for a couple years your not likely to get sick
Moderate drinking of alcohol has been proven to have benefits to some people's health... here is a reputable source to help you weigh the pros and cons and make your own decision:

ok, not to be mean but alcohol is never good for you! not even red wine is bad for you, people may say "oh, red wine is good for you so drink all you want and get drunk kids"! to take care of your body just dont drink any of that nasty junk and drink coke and juice!
Drinking alcohol has no benefits to your system whatsoever, any benefits present in the red wine would still be there if they took the alcohol out. Alcohol is a major toxin and we are only able to tolerate it because it has been part of our culture for millenia and many peoples do not have the same tolerance that we do and it makes them very sick. If you do not need to drink alcohol then don't because that is the best benefit.
plenty of iron.
The ability to not feel pain when you go **** over tit on a night out.
I am a recovered alcoholic, just a week short of 15 months in AA, but I'm no killjoy, if you can enjoy reasonable amounts and control it good luck to you.
The reason I say all that is now I know an awful lot about alcohol, it is a toxic substance and although small amounts of say red wine will not actually harm you, there are NO known health benefits to the human body that can't be achieved by other methods.
I understand sales went up a tad yesterday in Twickenham!

Wine contains anti-oxidants which are good for the heart.
there is no really good thing about drinking alcohol because it always going to be bad for you because it could kill you if you drink to much and really that is not a good thing because really your family and no one wants to see someone die for a stupid reason so if you drink i can not stop you but just realize that you are really killing your self every day of your life that you drink and that is really bad for you and all of your family members
From Jasmine Rose Lopes
This might be in the mayo link, I might have read it before.
Red wine is the best for your heart, with white wine and beer behind it. I've never read anything that said "hard alcohols" are good for your heart. As was also mentioned, and drink or two each night might help you relax. If your diet is very poor, the OJ from your Tequila sunrise or the celery from your Bloody Mary might be the only fruits/vegetables your body ever sees. I've also heard of studies that show social drinkers earn more money.
Sure, you can get the same effects by drinking a glass of grape juice and learning yoga. That doesn't mean that anyone/everyone who decides to drink is going to die. I have yet to see a study that shows drinking a glass or two of wine each day is going to shorten your life. As was mentioned, as long as you can control it, there shouldn't be a problem.
the social aspect is the main benefit...you actually feel part of the "social group" as a whole which is rewarding...you also bump into people you wouldnt normally see or who have forgotten about. its healthy as long as it doesnt make your liver and kidneys ache...i wouldnt go near red wine or spirits...
Wine....go for a zinfandal, bit like a rose wine. not as strong as red and not as bad hangovers.
Spirits...leave alone, but southern comfort and lemonade is a good lady drink...vodka can be poor quality from bars. Spirits can do your guts in.
Beer...stay away from "premium" largers and stick to your generic largers such as carling.
Cider...suits some women and lasts longer
