depends on what it is being consumed with or for...
beer with some foods-brats, pizza, chicken(grilled we baste with it).
wine with others-pasta, cheese etc.
go to a vineyard and try the different wines out...try a soft red (not rose thats a dry wine) they will give you a list of what wines go with what...circle the kinds you liked and try other brands.
we got our local store to carry our favorite wine and this winery makes Honey wine OMG you have to try it.

Beer. Wine tastes and smells like vomit...just my opinion of course.
I've tried one kind of wine and I didn't like it too much, so I'll go with beer. It isn't the greatest, but after the first or second one, I'm lovin it!
wine and oj (or goon and juice). it has to be the cheap sunnyvale wine though.
