I have two lead crystal liquor decanters. what shoud I put in them, or what is the usual liquor to put in them!

Question: one is square and one is round oval shaped. Just wondering if there is a protocol. I dont want to be incorrect in how I store my liquor in the cabinet. I was thinking one for brandy and one for whiskey. I wouldnt mind having some hints for other popular drinks when my friends come over, like what people usually stock on their beverage inventory. Thanks to all in advance.

You would normally put something to be aged in a chrystal decanter like a single malt scotch. There is really no rule, but it tends to be expensive dark liquor and not no name vodka or something like that. Any spirit that you would sip on the rocks will do.

Good things to keep on hand for company is of course, beer and wine, vodka, white and dark rum, vermouth, gin, kahlua, irish cream, whiskey, scotch and tequila. You'd have a pretty complete bar with all that, but don't forget to have all the right mixes, glasses and garnishes too. If you really want to impress, pick up a bar tender's guide. They normally have some guidance for the home bar too.

It used to be you put brandy, cognac, ruby port, etc., in them. These were after dinner drinks or "gentlemen's drinks". Now, you will usually find scotch, whiskey, or bourbon. However, that said, make sure the decanters are not lead crystal as there is some fear that lead will leach into the beverage.

For the basics of a well-stocked bar; check out the link below. Great information!!

I might mention that the containers are poison (lead crystal) and you might want to research that =)
