What is the best way to drink or serve a Port wine?!

Question: Should it be chilled, and if so, how much? Should it be decanted as well? If so, how long?

Port

Did you know that Port is described as one of the sexiest drinks available? In the old days, it was only brought out after women had left the room. Women do not leave the room anymore, of course, and Port sales are certainly better for it.

Origins of Port
Officially, real Port comes only from the Douro River Valley in Portugal, very much the same way that true Champagne comes from the Champagne region of France. The term "port wine" can only refer to these Portugal originated products. The Douro River Valley vineyards are unbelievably steep, and planted in tiers on the mountainside. Port wine is a worldly consumed product and very important to its economy.

Serving Port
Port should be served around 65 degrees, in a narrow wine glass, and the glass should only be half filled. This keeps the alcohol content from overwhelming the flavors. It often needs to be decanted, and is traditionally served with Stilton or Cheddar cheese, and goes very well with chocolate. Port aromas include pepper, smoke, truffles and black currant.

I would not chill a Port. I also serve from the bottle. It's always been great this way.

It should be served at about 60-65 degrees, depending on quality. If your room temperature is about this, then I'd throw it in the fridge for a 20-30 minutes.

No need to decant most ports.

I agree with en camera, serve it at room temperature from the bottle without ice cubes.

Straight from the box! only the really expensive wines have a pour spout haha

Oh hell squirrel just drink it. By the time you get done with the second glass you wont care if you chilled it or not. don't chill it. Love, honey

MY FRIEND DRINKS PORT AND LEMONAIDE

Naked and in abundance usually works out well enough. Buy the cheap stuff because it usually gets forgotten about pretty much straight away.

If it aint cold i dont want.. it.. open bottle pass it around each drinking a sip outta the bottle. Piss on glasses..

It should not be chilled, it need not be decanted, and is best served with cigars. At least, that's how I like it. Salud!
