What are the basics I need to know as a bartender?!

Question: I just got a gig at a new bar/restaraunt in a busy area bartending. I'm psyched because I've always wanted to do it. I've done some bartending at a country club I was waitressing at, but I know there's tons I don't already know. Where the bartenders at?! Help me out! Thanks :)

Know your shots! I started bartending and everyone was like "I need a liquid cocaine, stary night, sexy alligator, irish carbomb" and I had to ask THEM how to make them. Boy did I feel stupid! Keep a shot book behind the bar with you. Eventually you will memorize them, but a book helps out SO much. People will ask you "whats a good shot?" have something uncommom on the top of your head and they will love it and always remember thats the shot YOU made them! People love looking at the books and you will learn how to make more shots from them asking for them! Good luck! I absolutly LOVE my bartending job!

most places will put you through bartending school.

Know your drinks
know your regulars and acknowledge all your customers when your are busy with making another drink

How to talk to people, and read them. How to listen actively. How to know when someone's had too much. How to gracefully defuse potentially explosive situations.

If you've already waitressed, you already know what influences tips.

yes been a bartender for 12 years ,remember customer service ,that is the best way to keep them happy . you might mess up on a drink, but people will always remember how they were treated! have fun ,and make that money!

Well since you already did it at a country club , the only difference is that you'll get to spread your legs for younger drunk men this time.

gotta be flirty, know your drinks, and gotta know some tricks
