Which beer has the most alcohol by volume?!

Question: I know Sam Adam’s utopia has like 25% but I want to know about the more common beers... a link to a list would be great

Davey boy: There is NO beer of 41% abv. As stated in the original question, the highest-alcohol beer ever produced is Sam Adams Utopias at 25.4% abv.
As far as more common beers that are widely available, I would look at IPAs, as they are generally between 6.5% and 10%. Also, Scotch Ales average 8%, so they're high as well, though IPAs are far easier to find.

As far as pedestrian offerings go the highest ABV you're going to encounter regularly is usually around 7% ABV and the most widely available beer I can think of around that strength is Carlsberg Elephant which is 7.2% ABV. Depending on where you live 9-12% ABV beers may not be too uncommon and some very widely distrubted examples of that are Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA, Sierra Nevada Bigfoot Barleywine, and Stone Ruination.

Many states have laws which regulate the sale of beer greater than 6% ABV so you sometimes either can't get it at all or have to look for it at specialty stores.

Red Stripe (4.7%) is no more strong than Budweiser (5%).

EDIT:
Yeah there's definitely no actual beer that's 41% ABV and "Delerium Tremens" is only 9%. There are some distilled spirits from beer though which could very well be 41% but those would no longer be beer.

Just Fyi, I had the same question. A friend of mine brought a specialty beer back from Germany. I can't recall the name. Anyhow, it was some ungodly alcohol percentage, like 25% or more. I must tell you it was absolutely horrible and I am a guy who loves beer. I would stop at the 7% or so common in an IPA beer or you might try something like Chimay. You want high alcohol content and good taste? I would drink wine. That's my 2 cents.

A boilermaker!

Seriously, high-alcohol beers really don't taste so good. Why drink a beer that tastes lousy? You defeat the purpose. You drink beer because you like the taste of beer. If you want 20% or more, go buy some Mad Dog.

er..........well i know there IS a beer of 41% vol. but i have no idea of the name of it. another strong beer is called delirium tremmors. very nice indeed!

Most "regular" beers sold have about 5%, malt liquors have like 6-9%. Some special brews (delicious!) have much more than that:
Sam Adams Triple Bock is 17.5%
Stone Brewing Double Ba$tard Ale is 10%.

When homebrewing beer you can add extra fermentables to up that %, too.

Try a barleywine.
