Is lite beer worth it?!

Question: I'm switched to lite beer because, well, a beer belly isn't a good look. And it tastes awful. I love beer... but I do not love lite beer. Anybody have any good reccommendations?

PS Not Bud Lite, not Miller Lite. I'm a beer conisseur!

This is my opinion but I've always argued that lite beer is actually worse for you, even when compared to its macro counterpart which I still don't recommend.

In beer calorie content is directly proportional to ABV without having to go in and engineer calories out of a beer. So if you could drink all the beer it would take you to get drunk in one second you'd consume the same number of calories just with a different number of beers. The problem with lite beer lies in the fact that it is so weak and you can't get drunk in 1 second. You end up drinking and consuming more calories simply because you're processing the alcohol and liquid volume over a much longer period of time than you would with a stronger beer. Rather than drinking 4 beers in 2 hours to get drunk you end up slowly ramping to inebriation over 14 beers and several hours which greatly increases your calorie intake.

Lite beer is also devoid of nutrition so drinking it does absolutely nothing for you. A good craft beer is loaded with vitamins and in some ways is actually good for you.

My recommendation is to drink what you like in moderation and if you do anything trade up to stronger and richer beers, not lighter and flavorless ones.

If you still want a good light beer then my favorites for light craft beers are Southern Tier's Hop Sun and Three Floyds Gumballhead. Both are about the same strength as a light beer but infinitely better.

No... is the short answer.

Long answer: Amstel Light, moderation, regular exercise, healthy diet, supercharged metabolism, don't drink more than a couple of times a week, etc. etc. etc. All the little things compound into a beer gut. It's not just the beer. If you are disciplined in the little things, then you can enjoy one or two or three of your favorite beers a few times a week without guilt or consequence. Hell, if you have the discipline, you can even tie one on for a special occasion once in a while... with the consequence of a hangover and whatever stupid stuff you do when drunk. The problem starts when you sit down at the bar and get hammered 5+ nights a week.

It is not worth it. Life is too short to drink cheap beer. The difference in one pint of good quality beer to one can of "Grocery-Store Lite" or "NASCAR Lager Light" means you'll have to take an extra 10 or 15 steps that day to work off the carbs and calories.
Total waste...
Enjoy a good IPA!

If you have to drink lite beer Amstell Lite isn't too bad, But really, sacrificing taste for a few calories isn't worth it.

probably not, because you drink twice as much thinking its lite =)

In my opinion No. I would rather drink 1/3 less beer than have a beer with 1/3 less calories.

Never...fewer GOOD beers is better than more BAD beers.

Note:
This doesn't apply to FREE beer...ever.

no. But Guiness is!

In the end, no.

No. Totally not worth it. Dudes like girls that drink real beer...not Zima beer.

We like beer belly's, it's good to have a girl with curves. No one likes to cuddle with a stick.

Check out New Glarus Brewery Spotted Cow.

If you like to drink a lot of good beer and want to maintain a good physique, then you're just going to have to burn off those calories by getting some exercise. The fact is, even drinking lite beer can pack on the pounds after a while.

Awful stuff that is...
Try Windhoek lager light, or Carling Black label shandy

if im drinking light beer i usually just end up drinking more so the best bet is to just drink ice beer or higher %alc beer and you will consume less. guiness beer has less calories then most light beers, so maybe try that.
