Smoking baned?!

Question: Should smoking be baned in every single restaurant and bar ?

Answers: Should smoking be baned in every single restaurant and bar ?

No. As much as I enjoy not having to deal with smoke while I am eating and as great as it is to not smell like an ashtray when I leave a bar, it is wrong to tell private business owners outside of a mall complex that they can not allow a legal activity within the confines of their private establishment that they pay taxes on. I do believe restaurants (places that serve food as opposed to straight up bars) should be required to have a seperate smoking sections and I would completely support requiring businesses to get a smoking license (not unlike a liquor license), because this would help create revenue for the city/ town that could be used to do thinks like put more police on the streets, or fix sidewalks or fund schools. I live in a city where smoking has been banned from most places and it has really hurt a lot of bars. Most of the bars that were non smoking before the smoking ban have gone out of business because they have lost their draw. My bartender friends report that their tips have gone down 10- 20% in the last 1.5 years since the ban was instated. Also, I understand the whole public health thing, but a restaurant is not a public place- it is a private business where they can refuse to serve you if you are not wearing the right clothes if they want to. You are only welcome there if the owner says so. Furthermore, how many innocent deaths does drunk driving/ alcoholism cause each year? Are we going to start considering that a public health issue too and stop serving alcohol at bars?

Also- you choose to be in a restaurant. No one is forcing you to be there.

Yes. The reason I say that is because smoke effects everyone. If it was a bad habit that only effected the person doing it, then I could care less if it was banned or not. But because the smoke from one person's cigarette can effect the health of everyone around that person, I think smoking should be banned from public places. I don't want to have to pay for your bad habit.

*cough!* Yes. *cough!*

if so, pretty soon not talking and no having fun!

Yes, and i am a smoker.

no... only in certain family restaurants

Y-E-S!!!

It is so nasty and I hate when I walk by someone that is smoking or has smoked, they smell so bad.

Im a smoker and I have to say yes. I mean I smoke but i dont want to be in a room full of smoke while im eating.

yeah

YES
i hate smokers, they stink and it serves no purpose.....

yep

I think they should b in restaurants. However, bars are bars and after a certain time maybe 9 pm people should be allowed to smoke if they want.
But I am also not minding the fact that most bars in my town have set up an outside covered area for smokers, which is kinda neat.

no, i dont believe so, espically after all these bars and restraunts put all the money into the special rooms for smokers only to have it banned

Restaurants- yes. Its just disgusting to think someone smoking while they or others eat.
Every bar -no.
Some bars are known as smokey lounges. Or are known for cigars and martinis.
If you don;t like it go somewhere else.

Personally, (and I am a non-smoker) restaurants, bars, pool-halls, casinos, etc. shouldn't have to go smoke free because they are not places people have to go to. They should have the alternative of posting a sign that says they are a smoking facility and to enter at your own risk. As long as smoking is legal the regulation smells of Communism. (no pun intended!)

yes i hate it when the smoke gets into hair clothes nose eyes its horrible

I think individual business owners should have the right to decide whether or not they want to allow smoking in their restaurant or bar.

If more people go to the non-smoking bars and restaurants, then more may change.

Making laws that ban smoking is just the slippery slope to restricting and taking away freedoms from every day people!

Fatty foods and alcohol will be next.

NO it is decimation. you mite as well go back fifty years and have race and sex separation. it will never be completely outlawed due to corporate America the tobacco industry puts way to much money into the economy

I vote yes about restaurant, unless they have smoking room. I dont care about bar.

it is in england thank god!

Yes

not really there should be some restaurents where you could smoke
if you dont smoke
then you shoul'nt go to thhat restaurent

Not as long as it is legal!

yes! It is in Montana, however bar here have a grace period for a few years, but as long as the establishments income is over 60% in food then the establishment has to be smoke free. It is such a relief to go into a bar that is non-smoking and to come out and not to smell like you had smoked a pack

Yes, and it is pretty much here in Canada.
I am a smoker and I can see a difference. Not only do these places smell better but I smoke a lot less if I go out for drinks.
Believe me,you think about that next cigarette when you have to leave everything and go stand on the sidewalk.
There's no way to confine smoke to one section of a room. We know that passive smoke is unhealthy,we really should do what we can not to hurt others.

It almost infringes on a citizen's right to own a rest. or bar and run it the way they want....If it weren't for my slight case of allergy induced asthma, I would say it should be up to the owner. Smoke really bothers me, makes me very uncomfortable, but I have been around people who are severly allergic to smoke and it is not pretty.

restaurant, ban it, eating and smoking sucks...I have never seen a smoker eat and smoke at the same time...it is always afterwards, and who died and made them God that they can smoke while EVERY one else is choking down their food?

When Corpus Christi banned it, the smokers "alliance" got together and said they would come across the bridge to Portland and eat and smoke in OUR restaurants...gee thanks for nothin'! We couldn't even get in the door to eat for all the smoking Corpus people being there, and even late at night it was full of smokers, could not even go there it was so stinky. I also have been in a "non smoking" hotel room, so the peel off sticker on the door said. When getting up in the morning after a miserable night, my eyes stuck and swelled shut, wheezing, well, corporate office was not very happy after my phone call.

bar...I dunno...you kind of expect it. I rarely go into a bar, but I surely can enjoy myself with out taking a benadryl before I go inside.

Yeah Corpus Christi for banning it in both places!

Yes I think if they want to smoke so bad then they should be willing to go outside.I don't understand why anyone would even smoke.

should smoking be banned in a legal way, letting our corrupt government take away yet another one of our quickly disappearing freedoms. No. i am a bartender, and i smoke. and though i do agree some family restraunts should be smoke free(and are) i feel smoking should be up to the owner as it is his business, and his desicion on what to allow or not allow. if you dont like it go somewhere else. seriously does this have to be such a big issue.

yes, I have allergies and I get sick around smoke. I grew up with everyone smoking but me. It was horrible. I like to enjoy my food and be able to breathe while doing so. I was so happy when I lived in Cal. and they banned it. then when I moved to Fla. they banned it a few yrs. back. Me and my family shouldn't have to have our lungs exposed to smoke because the people who want to smoke can't go 45mn. to 1hr. without a cigarette

No it should be up to the business owners.

hmmm lets see how many people will get peeved for this answer, smoking is a choice maybe not a smart one but it is a choice, just as drinking is a choice, and third if it were your business would you want someone such as the government to tell you how to run your business? Many people don't realize that the ban on smoking is a very small infringement upon a persons individual right to choose what they wish to do with themselves. Now I am not saying its right to smoke, I am not saying its wrong to smoke, I can say its not a very clean, economical choice. But neither is drinking, I have worked in bars and restaurants, and I have smelled not just dirty cigarette butts the next day but also alcohol makes a pretty nasty odor the next day. Anyhow, I chose to work in those places I chose to expose myself to unsavory characters, and environmentals, It was my choice, just as it is my choice when I go into an establishment with smoking, just as it could be for someone to go into or work in a non smoking establishment, Just because it bothers you, just because you don't like it doesn't give you the right to impress your opinion on business owners and smokers, you cant make anyone do or not do something you don't like. Let it be up to the business owners, and make a special smoking license to purchase when opening an establishment and have the workers sign waivers that they realize and know the dangers of second hand smoke, problem solved, right? No the fact of the matter is how many people are going to tattle tale upon a business that allows smoking, and how many people are going to continue to force what they believe is right upon someone else. Smoking really is not an issue of health its about somebody telling somebody else whats best for them, how can I say what is right for you, how can i say what is right for my neighbor, for the guy two streets up who walks his dog at two in the morning. Stop telling people you know what is best for them, stop telling a business owner how to run their business. Take care of yourself don't go around cigarette smoke, don't light up, etc. etc. but STOP TRYING TO LEAD THE HORSE TO WATER, YOU CAN'T MAKE IT DRINK!!!!
Its about a simple choice to do or not to do. We all know the dangers it has been pounded into our heads since the eighties. You made your choice to be a non-smoker and a smoker made the choice to be a smoker that is their fault they new they chose its their own fault if they smell funny, or if they spend their last five bucks on a pack instead of saving it for later, they develope health problems, and no matter how we might hate it, to be a smokers it was a choice, you made yours they made theirs leave it alone, and stop trying to fix everyone who is not like you and doesnt agree with you.

yes . . . dno xx
