I'm having a party, should I invest in buying the American version of Absinthe?!

Question: also I need mixed drink advice, as I generally drink everything straight.

Answers: also I need mixed drink advice, as I generally drink everything straight.

Funny you should ask... our bottles just showed up in the mail today!.... cept they're not from America, which probably makes them illegal... and sooo much more fun, tehee. Gonna be a Black V-day.

ive tried it and its ****. just get alot of clear liquors and a bunch of juice. itll work out alright.

No.

If you try it out in a bar, you would know why I say NO! Better off buying some good Vodka.

I never heard of Absinthe until watching a show on History Channel recently, sounds like some fun juice. Hellyeah investments in alcohol often have fruitful returns, can I come?

no, be american , get a few 24 packs, mabe some hard liquor to jump start your heart quicker, and enjoy the night.

The American version is unknown to me.
I have been able to get quality stuff from
www.sebor.com though.
I would think it may be rather expensive.
Try looking up Vampyress' Grimoire on any search engine- there are some great drink recipes, as well as food suggestions & recipes, too!
There used to be an "Easy Absinthe" recipe in there for steeping the necessary herbs in vodka or gin, maybe it's still there. My friends hate the taste, but like the effects!
Good luck! :)

It all depends...do your friends like absinthe? You're looking at dropping anywhere from $50-100 depending on the store's markup. If you do, get the Kuebler...it's the best tasting and least expensive available. Just remember, don't do shots (it's a waste of expensive booze) and don't light it on fire (it's a waste of alcohol, not to mention the chance of burns).

As for the mixed drinks...have some vodka, rum, orange juice, cranberry juice, sprite, coke, and lots of ice on hand and you'll be set.
Here's every mixed drink recipe you can think of:

Maybe.

Find the Maxim magazine with the reviews of different Absinthes and how to drink them. You melt brown sugar or something.

Where's the party?

Grey Goose and tonic is my mixed drink of choice. Svedka is a great cheap vodka too.

diva...i don't know if this will help you but here goes :

oscar wilde once asked : " what's the difference between a glass of absinthe and a sunset ?"....sunsets can be freely enjoyed but absinthe is forbidden because it contains thujone, a toxic compound...i didn't know this by heart...i'm not that cultured. i just read it in one of those links....but it is a drink i enjoy if properly prepared...

absinthe has been in the news lately and enjoying a revival here in the U.S. over the last year. i have a couple of links for you which you might appreciate..

i would only drink it mixed with water and ice and only in the following order of pouring : absinthe then water then ice cubes. if you mix it in a different order, the absinthe kind of breaks up and you see flake-like patches floating in your glass and it is not enjoyable and tastes diffferent...( my opinion).. way i drink it is either as pernod or uzzu...anything purer is more than i can bear and burns like hell...akin to drinking goldenschlager ....

good luck..
.

I wish I hadn't looked-up Absinthe on Wikipedia

Now, I'm walking around the house, speaking in a Scottish brogue, saying, "The Grrrrreeen Faireee" LOL

I'd love to join the party, but I'd have to be the Desig. Driver

Havn't drank in 22 yrs - But GOD - I could really use one!!

LOL

Cheers and Have Fun!!

Stay away from the American stuff unless you just want it for the novelty. It's made with some other type of wormwood and just isn't like the real thing as far as effects are concerned. It does loach...turn milky white when you add the water.

It will still have an alcohol effect and it might be interesting to see if this has a placebo effect on your friends.

For other drinks get some burbon, vodka, rum, gin, tequilla and a few soft drinks and mixers and you'll have a great party.
