What type of wine?!

Question: I'm very sorry, but im very ignorant when it comes to wines. For Valentine's day, I'm making a seafood dish including crab legs an shrimp. I know that white wine usually goes with seafood, but i'm lost beyond this point. What type of white wine should I get? I really don't like bitter tasting wine (ie. the only type of wine i've had is merlot and I hated it). Any ideas? Also, if it could be a wine that I could easily find in a grocery store that would be great! Thanks!

First, you are not ignorant on wine - you just don't have enough exposure. Hopefully, you will learn to enjoy wine and become more motivated on wanting to learn more about wine.

As for your dilemma, the first type of wine I usually recommend is Sauvignon Blanc. Sauvignon blanc is a fruity light white wine that is easy to drink, not high on alcohol, and relatively inexpensive. It is fruity in smell and slightly sweet without overwhelming, so the wine complement very well with light dishes. In addition it is crisp, so a chilled Sauvignon Blanc is wonderful to drink by itself as well as with many types of food. It has no tannin, so no bitterness is present. It is also not overly acidic and dry like Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.

I would recommend my favorite, Caymus Conundrum ($25). You should also consider Chateau St. Michelle ($15), Duckhorn ($25), Cakebreak ($25), and my other favorite, Robert Mondavi Fume Blanc ($18). I would highly suggest for you to try these, and if you find it pleasant, try other white wines.

With Conundrum and other Sauvignon blanc, I got my girlfriend and rest of her family to convert from non-drinker and connoiseur of Conundrum and other white wines.

Cheers!

I suggest a nice Sauvignon Blanc from Chile.

try a resling or a resling blend they are sweeter.. saint m is pretty good and inexpensive.. as for red wine i know this wasnt in ur question but try a pinto noir they are very good and not bitter- echolon pinto noir would be good for you very light but very flavor full

since you don like a bitter wine - try an ice wine - they are the sweetest and are better as a desert wine

A Seyval Blanc would be a good choice. It's a nice crisp wine that won't over power your meal.

If you like sweet wines, a nice Riesling or Niagara (really sweet) would be good. Even a Rose or blush would be a good choice to have with seafood.

Don't be bullied into having red wines with red meats and whites with chicken and fish. In all honesty, if you like the wine, drink it. Pair it up with what ever you want to. The ultimate taste is your own.

If you're really unsure about the types of wines out there, go some place where you can sample some. Some wine shops will allow you to taste, but there is limit as to how many samples you can have in a visit. The same goes for wineries.

Have fun, be safe and have a Happy Hearts Day.

A pinot grigio should go very well with your seafood.

get( beringer white wine) its really good
