What is the highest proof bourbon that I can purchase in the U.S.?!

Most widely available bourbons are 80-100 proof.
A whiskey can be called bourbon when distilled all the way up to 160 proof. However, during the course of aging in oak barrels, some of the alcohol evaporates, so you are never going to find a 160 proof bourbon in reality.
To get the highest proof in the bottle, you need to pick a bourbon that is "barrel proof". That means that it was bottled at the same strength it was when it came out of the barrel.
Most bourbons are diluted with water to achieve a target proof number, but barrel proof bourbons are not.
As for readily available bourbons that are high proof, the Bookers and Old Grand Dad 114 are good suggestions. Bookers is in fact a barrel proof whiskey.
There are stronger ones out there though.
George T Stagg is one of the whiskeys in the annual Buffalo Trace Distillery Antique Collection.
It is a barrel-proof bourbon, and the strength is a little different each year. It ranges from 130-145 proof.
The last three years (2005-2007) it has been over 140 proof. These are nicknamed the "Hazmat" releases, because liquors over 140 proof can't be taken on commercial airline flights.
The whiskies in the Antique Collection can be a little hard to find, but of 5 or 6 in the collection, I would say that the George T Stagg is the easiest to find. Generally any high-end liquor store with a good whiskey selection has it or can get it. It might not always be out on the shelf so be sure to ask. Prices vary depending on what state you're in: anywhere from $70-$110.
The George T Stagg bourbon also has repeatedly been voted the best whiskey in the world by various whiskey panels and magazines.

Bookers Bourbon is 126.7 proof. i have note seen anything out there stronger.
I agree, Bookers is the highest proof bourbon I am familiar with at 127 proof. What kind are you drinking at 114?
Wild Turkey Rare Breed is 108 proof & Baker's is 107.
