What is so good about champagne?!

Question: i had a bottle of normal moet and chandon brut imperial a few weeks back and it tasted like bubbly fizz with a grapey twist...i see all the expensive labels with massive price tags and wonder...'is it worth it?' this is after looking at dom perignons, louis roderer cristal and bollingers

thanks for all replies

Well as a complete wine lover who has the money for the expensive stuff....generally it isn't worth it.

I've had great wine for $20 a bottle, and I've had very mediocre $80 a bottle wine. Now your odds of getting great wine go up with price, but you can find really good inexpensive wine. I personally love going to different wineries and seeing what they have.

And don't let the snobs tell you what is good, you have your own opinion.

taste

Comparing Dom and Brut is like comparing Bud Light and Westvleteren.... That comparison is probably lost on most people.... Like comparing McDonald's to Morton's Steak House.

Personally my taste is for Tattingers, a little fruity, and somewhat dry, it's a nice taste, and a wonderful treat. A wonderful way to celebrate really, not heavy like a beer, not going to put you out like liquer.

Gets ya drunk nice and fast

It's all about a acquired taste!

nothing it is actuly bad for you.

I don't know, maybe the glamour behind the name, because it's the lover's drink, the bubbles... For the same price I can buy a better bottle of wine... But if you like go for it, if you don't try other things that suit you better

It all comes down to a matter of taste. If you like the taste of bubbly, then it might be worth it to spend the bucks on a really high end bottle of Champagne. However, I have found a number of great sparkling wines from wine regions all over the world that were a fraction of the price of Champagne because they couldn't be called that not being made in the Champagne region of France.

Incidentally, the only Champagne I have ever had was for my University graduation and it was Moet Chandon White Star Line. It was very nice, but for my money, I would sooner go and buy a bottle of my favourite sparkling from one of the wineries in Ontario, Canada - Peller Estates Ice Cuvee.
