Fruity Sangria for Easter?!
Fruity Sangria for Easter?
I'm trying to find a good wine for our Easter dinner, we're having a formal dinner Saturday night with friends with a traditional menu: Brown sugar glazed ham, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese.
I'm having trouble finding a good wine to compliment the meal. I figured a white wine because the meal isn't heavy, but I don't want one that isn't sweet. I hate the real sour taste of some wines. I'd love some suggestions.
Thanks!
Answers:
If you want something fruity and sweet that will pair with any meal, consider Champagne.
Mumm's and Veuve Clicquot both offer moderately priced Champagnes that will complement all the foods on your menu.
Just make sure your selection is true Champagne. The quality and variety of "Sparkling wines" is too vast for me to recommend them.

Have you tried rose? I love white zinfandel (it's called white but is rose!) It isn't too dry or too sweet and goes with most food and it looks pretty too!
Why not make your own sangria? Combine equal amounts of red and white wine and orange juice in a jug. Stir well. Add simple syrup if it needs sweetening. Chill until really cold. Don't add ice; it will dilute the flavor. To finish, chop some oranges, apples and lemons. Add the chopped fruits to the sangria before serving.
nope that sounds not right
sangria's are sweet wines
why not just have some ice tea with the meal
and then you can have cocktails before and after
think about this
YOUR HAVING A HAM W/ MAC & CHEESE
try a dry Champagna
If you are looking for a white wine that is sweet you are looking for a white Zinfindel. THe only 2 brands I would suggest are Berringer (1) which is by far the best, and Sutter Home. If you are looking for a dryer white wine and you don't mind spending a little more definitely get Santa Margarita Pinot Grigio. When hosting a party it is always good to have options for drinks.
Yago Sangria would be an excellent choice.
And I would suggest that you purchase a bottle of Pinot Noir for the other guests that would prefer a more drier wine to go with the dinner like "Mirrasou" or "Concho y Torro" which are two of the top of the lines Pinot Noirs which sell for under $11.00 at most retail stores. -
And - you can blend your Pinot Noir's into your Sangria until you get that "perfect glass of wine" that you are looking for!
Good Luck and Bon Aperitif!
