What cool things could we do for an 80's night at a bar/restaurant?!

Question: A couple of us are putting together an 80's night for us 40 somethings to go out to, dress like we did, dance to awesome 80's music, and have a fun night out. The bar has a liquor license, a dance floor, and we will sell tickets for the event. Any suggestions? I was thinking a couple of contests for the people dressed like Valley Girls, Material Girls, and best punk outfit. Drinks like Bartles and James or Seagrams coolers, fuzzy navels, and maybe dance contests. What do you suggest?

maybe some "best" categories a la high school yearbook. best parachute pants, leg warmers, mousse abuse hair style, etc. maybe a best high school grad pic? (always good for some laughs) I think nina has a good idea. most of those 80s bands that are still together work pretty cheap nowadays. maybe the clash or loverboy are still around? hehe. that would be a riot!

where is this bar anyway? that sounds like fun!

karaoke contest
dress and sing your favorite 80's bands

Sounds like you've covered everything... but you might consider getting a video/laptop project and running 80s movies (without the sound) against a blank wall.

well, hire a band from da 80's, have a bar, give every1 a fro

cocaine

Grab all of the music from Grand Theft Auto Vice City. That should cover a decent portion of your tunes.

How about (if the bar has a DVD player/TV) latching on to some of the 80's TV shows and running them in the background? Regan memoribilia would fit in perfectly as well.

why would you want to?
thinking back to the '80's; if people then knew that in 20 years time, people would be looking back at them with some kind of admiration they would think hell things are not going to move on to an improved and exciting future much are they...

that would be like people in the 2020's looking back at us and saying wow look at those groovy ipods they had, and those amazing xboxes and those pre faded baggy jeans...lets have a party and be like them

...wierd huh!

So... I help run a bar on a college campus and I threw a very successful 80's themed party.
It was titled "say goodbye to 1989..." It was a mock new years eve party. We decorated everything thing in tule and fake graffiti (spray chalk or plain ol' chalk will work). I hired a dj to spin the hits of that time era and everyone was required to dress in their best 80's attire or they had to pay a higher cover charge. We even did a countdown at midnight. I figured everyone always has a blast on new years so why not celebrate it on another night!
The night was a success to say the least.
It was great, i ordered all these neon dayglow plastic glasswear from this website http://www.servu-online.com/Plastic-Drin...
They Glowed brighter with the black lights we had up. And you know it's not 80's unless it's neon! Well I hope this helps.
Have Fun!
