who makes the "best" beer is subjective to personal opinon. I like many of the american micro brews but also like the european imports as well. my current import faves are bass and smithwicks. kirin is a yummy japanese beer. my current domestic micro faves are dogfishhead (delaware), lagunitas (cali), and brooklyn brewery (new york). and yes I always loves me some heinekens. it tastes so much better closer to the source. that's all I drank when I went to amsterdam. mmmmmm.beer.

and yes r_mack I love that blanche de chamblay too! we can get it here in the states but it is as expensive as the euro imports!

I like beer from just about anywhere but I am Canadian so am biased towards Canadian beers. Creemore is an excellent microbrewed lager - yummy. Blanche de Chambly is a Quebec wheat beer that is also really good.
Cheers!

Take it from an expert- While it is a subjective question, I would have to say the US produces the best beers with Belgium being a close second. The US makes a wider variety and has some of the world's best breweries (Three Floyds, Hair of the Dog,Surly,Alesmith and Bells to name a few). Belgian beers are a niche in my opinion. Most of them have the same basic flavors (spice, yeast, light or dark fruit). Then you have the trappist beers which are the best in the world (Westvleteren, Westmalle, St Bernardus and Rochefort are my faves)

Ireland, Guinness Extra Stout. Yum!

Sam Adams makes some very good commercial beers. I also like Newcastle Brown Ale, but some of my favorites have been brewed by me at home.
