The average is about 12%. Depending on the vintner and the country of origin, the percentages run anywhere from about 10%, all the way up to 19%. Lately, California vintners are finding they have a demand for the higher alcohol wines...don't know why. It's really all about the flavor.

The alcohol percentage in wine would depend on the type of wine and the region the grape is grown. The hotter the climate generally yields more alcohol in the wine. On average I would say the percentage is 9 to 12 percent. Some manufacturers boost there alcohol content by adding some form of hard booz into the fermenting process. Be wary of wines over the 12 percent mark and do some research on where the grapes are grown. IE Southern Portugal vs Northern Portugal wines will have a higher percentage because warmer area.
