I've been looking for the "real" stuff, myself...I live in Florida thought.

I know the FDA has approved three brands of REAL absinthe for sale in the United States, but none of my local liquor stores carry these brands. They carry several brands of things that claim to be absinthe, but they aren't...so be careful when you find a bottle of something that says "absinthe", it may not be real absinthe.

Good luck, I hope you're able to find what you're looking for!

EDIT: To all you people saying absinthe is illegal in the United States - IT IS NO LONGER ILLEGAL. THE FDA APPROVED SALE OF THREE DIFFERENT BRANDS OF ABSINTHE IN THE UNITED STATES IN LATE 2007 AND EARLY 2008. THEY ALL CONTAIN THUJONE, WHICH MAKES THEM REAL ABSINTHE. Also, real absinthe was NEVER hallucinogenic! Only the bathtub, homemade stuff has ever been hallucinogenic. Sheesh, do your homework and actually READ up on the subject instead of just repeating hearsay! Here's a NY Times article on it! http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/05/dining...

I think the federal law still outlaws absinthe so good luck trying to find it. State businesses will not stock a federally illegal product.

You can not buy it legally in the United States. check out NTSC.gov for more information on what is legal to bring into the country.

check e-bay

You can't - it's illegal in the US

make sure you're buying the real stuff and not Absente or the fake Pernod bottles... many retailers are selling those now and pawning them off as the real Absinthium (wormwood distilled).

check lefeverte.com for retailers in your area.

everyone above me who said it's illegal are 100% wrong. they released the restrictions on absinthe starting in Jan.

You would have to call around.

Just keep in mind it is not the same absinthe that was outlawed in the early 1900's.

The brands that were approved for sale are chemically different and don't have the hallucenogenic properties the original had.

I studied this in my drug and alcohol studies in college and yes, absinthe DID have hallucenogenic properties.

******* EDIT
I read the article posted by the person above and apparently she didn't read it correctly, it states, "now that is it safe...", which should indicate to you that it wasn't safe before. And the reference to hallucenogens, is that the NEW product doesn't have it, not that the old DIDN'T.

It's legal, but you still can't get the real stuff here. You can only get wannabe absinthe.

I know a dude who likes to make his own. You could try that...

The brand that is being manufactured in Frisco can be found at BevMo and Liquors For Less in San Diego county, if you have them in the OC call and ask whether they are carrying it.

You can buy it at most liquor stores in Baja California. It comes from the Czech Republic.
