What are white wines like?!

Question:

What are white wines like?

beginner on topic of what kind of wines taste like; like the sweets/whites, red/dry/not sweet ones , are there any others?

Answers:
Not all whites are sweet. Even Riesling, which is generally considered to be the sweetes of the whites, can vary from dry to intensely sweet (though it is always relatively acidic).

Instead of attempting a comprehensive answer, here are some wine varietals you might give a try.

Chardonnay - A lot of California Chardonnays cheat by being heavily oaked (left in a barrel for a long time), but Wilamette Valley and Australia have some good complex Chards. These tend to be fairly fruity, for lack of a better word.

Riesling - Very citruisy, and perfect for a warm day. If it's cheap, it can be pretty bad.

Gewurstraminer - It's typically in German-looking bottles (cause most of the stuff you'll find here is grown in Germany). Very floral, with a number of spice represented. The most complicated white wine, in my view.

Merlot - Very smooth and inoffensive. Lousy with most food dishes, which overwhelm it. Lots of mushroom and sometimes cheese or butter.

Cabernet Sauvignon- Very big, and a much better dinner wine. This is probably what most people think of when they think of red wines. A lot of pepper and fruit.

Red Zin - The fruitiest of reds. Often converted into dessert wine, but either way you get a lot of berry overtones. This and Pinot Noir are the best party wines, because nobody tends to be offended by them.

Malbec - Husky, dirty and dry, until recently, this varietal was mixed with others. Its grit has made it popular with male wine drinkers, and Argentina is making some good ones. If you like dry, give this a go, but note that some lousy winemakers are capitalizing on the recent popularity to sell some swill. Expect to spend $14+ on a good bottle.

As a beginner don't be hung up on price because you can easily find an affordable bottle in the style you like. Start with the whites because there are far fewer types than reds. The dry wines would include such as Pinot Grigio and Chardonay's and the sweets would be the white Zinfindel and Chablis. Figure which style you like and ask your local wine shop owner for a good bottle in the style you like. FYI White wines are inexpensively made due to a shorter fermenting process than reds so typically you will not spend more than 15 dollars a bottle with a couple exeptions.

i am guessing that you are too young to purchase........DON"T DRINK
white wines are usually less intense as reds
whitewine tends to be sweeter, (not like sugar)
i really only like reds,
they have WHite, Red, Rosa which is a mixed white and red and is Pink, + many other types, cooking wines which actually taste salty (you would be sick if you drank a glass) dessert wines (some ports, that are so sweet) price wise, a few dollars (3-4 )to what ever someone is willing to pay, walk around a winestore, some have bottles for 150, 200 bucks, and if you want a older vintage forget it!
