What is a good but inexpensive bottle of wine?!

Question:

What is a good but inexpensive bottle of wine?

Could someone give me a few names of some bottles of wine that are good tasting, but also very cheap (10- $20)? I would like to give some wine as gifts as a small thank you, but I don't want people to know that its cheap. Thanks.

Answers:
These are my favorite three brands and they are all under 20

Hogue (whites)
Ravenswood (great Zinfindel)
and Blackstone (good Merlot and Shiraz)

barefoot or kendell jackson

Wolf Blass Cabernet Merlot or Chardonnay. Actually anything from Wolf Blass. They have a good range of reds and whites for between $8 - $15. Jacobs Creek and Penfolds are pretty good too.

My bf got a bottle of Ravenswood Zinfandel (red, sorta sweet) from his boss for xmas.. We really really liked it, but figured it would cost too much to buy for ourselves. Well we checked at the store and I think it was only $17!! So we drink it all the time now!! Its my favorite wine.

Last we went on a trip out of state I bought a case of varying wines, reds and whites. I live in the Upstate NY Finger Lakes Region and there are several wineries to choose from. Hazlitt, Fulkerson, The wine festival is in July and many of the areas wineries set up shop and you can make a day or weekend of sampling. By the way, all that I gave wine to are planning a trip out here themselves.

I really love the Brown Brothers wines...they start at about $10 per bottle
The ones that i love are Dolcetto and Syrah (red) and Moscato (white), both nice and sweet; but also Crouchen Reisling is nice...

a very nice German wine, baring the words at the bottom of the label,,"traben Traubach" Good stuff,,every year, and not very expensive at all.
May have to go to a better liquor store to find it.

Charles Shaw makes a wine called 2 Buck Chuck. It actually cost about $3 but it is very good for the price. Sutter Home makes a good White Zinfandel too.

Charles Shaw wine at Trader Joe's is my favorite. Cheap wine from the grocery store gives me a headache. TJ's better because the stores carry healthy product. Your friends won't remember you as the guy/girl who poison them :)

Try Olivia Newton John Wines

There's some good wines for you!

Two buck chuck which they sell at Trader Joe's has actually been given kudos by the wine community, and like its name says, it's just about two bucks (I think here is is actually $2.99).

all of the wines yellow tail makes are pretty good and really inexpensive.

I'm a huge fan of YellowTail...it's an Australian wine that sells from around 10 to 20 bucks, they have a wide selection of wines and are very tastey. I drink it all the time, and it's much better than alot of the more expensive brands i've tried.

Two buck chuck (Charles Shaw) is good, but not for gifts, because it has a reputation of being a $2 wine.

I think most wines in the $10-20 range are going to be delicious and suitable for a gift. If you have a Beverages & More near you, you should check out their wine section, which lists the ratings of wines.

Contrary to popular belief, the Charles Shaw wines are amazing and a bargain for the price! Anywhere from $1.99-$2.99 at Trader joe's Stores. The wine quality is amazing, and the price can't be beat. If you do not have access to them, i would suggest the follwoing:

Yellow Tail Shiraz Grenache
Kendall Jackson Chardonnay
Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon
Barefoot Zinfandel

Also look for a Sangiovese! I don't have a specific name, but they are amazing!

Sterling Pinot Noir. Great flavor! It's one of my favorites. It's usually about $15 per bottle but sometimes you can find it on sale for about $9. At least that's the price of it in AZ where I live!

Some of my favorites are "Jeanie in the Bottle" (a rose'), "Druid's Fluid" (a VERY smooth red) and "River Guide White" (a delicious white blend) from Oregon. You can order them for $12 - $20 at http://www.troonvineyard.com/
