Here's one of the better places to order from. http://www.midwestsupplies.com/

Lager... Not Larger. What kind of home brewing kit is he using? If he is doing with something like a Mr. Beer then his selection is pretty finite. If he is actually using barley, hops, yeast and water... his choices are infinite.

Thats "lager" and try Samuel Adams.

Err....the whole point in home brewing is that you can experiment. Some of the best stuff I made was winging it. Don't just stick to the kits.

Get him a recipe book. Charlie Papazian has a few great books on the subject: http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&tag=mozi...

Asking what kind of lager is the best is like asking what kind of cake is the best. Everyone has a favorite. I would recommend your dad make whatever style he likes. I fully agree with the above poster that mentioned Midwest Supplies, I use them for 99% of my homebrewing needs. Another online homebrew shop with an awesome selection is http://www.austinhomebrew.com
You told us nothing of your father's equipment or experience, so I don't know if he should be using an extract kit or all grain, but if he has the equipment and experience, all grain kits are generally going to be a lot better than an extract kit.

Boots the chemist used to do a strong continental lager kit, that was really nice

They also have several good brewing kits as well as a great range of bulk ingredients, but as it was mentioned before if you're using a Mr. Beer kit then your choices are severely limited.

So there you have it, links for the North, South, and Midwest.
