Thank you for answering,

A traditional martini is made with gin and just a bit of dry vermouth. Depending on the drinker's taste, more or less vermouth can be added, but it is typically made with only 1/8 oz or so. It is usually served up (no ice) in a stemmed cocktail glass and garnished with an green olive. A variation of this drink called a Gibson is garnished with a small onion.

The drink is made by filling a mixing glass with ice and adding the ingredients. They are then stirred (shaking can cause the gin to become cloudy or icy, although some might prefer to have their martini shaken), then strained into the stemmed cocktail glass (sometimes referred to as a 'martini' glass).

A martini can also use vodka instead of gin.

a regular martini is gin an vermouth. a dry martini has little r no vermouth.
a vodka martinin is basicly straight vodka.

There are a million different types of martinis. Some bars have a whole menu of different types of martinis....apple martinis, chocolate martinis, raspberry martinis, lemon martinis, dirty martinis....the list is endless. A plain martini is usually with vodka or gin though.
