I like mine really dirty(lots of olive juice) and I drink them when I want something salty rather than sweet. I like the fact that you can sip on them and there aren't a lot of filling mixers. I started liking them around 22.

no ice and two green olives mainly

Honestly,

I think the martini is highly overated. Why do you think they came up with all its fruity cousins? Because, frankly they tastes pretty awful. The only good thing about a martini is the olive.

REAL martinis are made with gin and vermouth.
Vodka martinis are for those that started drinking them (or were influences by those starting in the mid to late 70s.
now, a good dirty gin is a thing of beauty and wonder. give me a few of those, and I will have a good night, and I'm 24.

Well, your question almost answers itself. it is the strong taste of gin or vodka mixed with the subtle flavors of olive and vermouth that do make it so appealing. my personal favorite is made with bombay gin, totally ful of flavour. I started liking them in my early 20's when i was a bartender. maybe the whole james bond thing started it but I never enjoyed a vodka martini quite as much.

Appreciating a martini didn't evolve until I was in my 30's and past the sweet or just drinking to get plastered phase of my life. I put top shelf gin in the freezer to use for making martinis so that the taste won't be altered or watered down by ice. Gin, a splash of extra dry Martini and Rossi vermouth and a few big green olives makes the perfect drink. The initial taste is pure alcohol, but quickly followed by the flavors and nuances of the gin being used. I especially like the juniper in gin-it has a clean evergreen taste without any hint of sweetness or bitterness. The further down the drink, the more pronounced the salty aftertaste from the olives in the bottom. One martini is a taste treat with an alcohol kick for me, two or more is a slide down slobbering self indulgence.

I enjoy a gin martini because I appreciate the taste of a good gin. It takes time for people to develop an appreciation for the taste of high-quality spirits. I wouldn't expect a young person who usually drinks sweet drinks and cheap beer to appreciate a dry martini, but once you start drinking better beer and spirits, you'll never go back to the cheap stuff.

It's good to be open minded and try different drinks, there are so many good ones out there that don't require you to cover up their bad taste with sweet, sugary liqueurs and mixers. You don't have to go right to drinking dry martinis, but try broadening your horizon. I started trying and appreciating better beer and spirits in college, but now that I am in my upper 20's, I can afford to try different drinks and enjoy them on a regular basis. And I could never go back.

I was attracted to this drink because of the name -- Incredible Hulk. It sounded strong and manly. LOL

Incredible Hulk Recipe
Chill both the beverages before use. Add 3 parts Hypnotiq to the cocktail glass. Then add the two parts Hennessy cognac. The result is a mean green drink with a fruity but killer bite.
