Bartending...?!

Question: I've had a steady 2-8 weekday babysitting job for 3 years so I haven't really had much work experience besides a couple of months at Dunkin Donuts when I was 16. lol...

Would anyone in their right mind hire me for a bartending job?

Bartending school is the great American Rip-off. No one hires people straight out of bartending school. Become a server or barback and work your way up. That's how the system works. Get yourself a cocktail recipe book, and a few bottles and pour spouts and practice at home. Work on your pour counts, and your customer service ability. Restaurant bars are typically at more slow pace, while nightclub bars are fast-paced, high volume. You'll need to be able to help 3 or 4 customers at once, while keeping track of their tabs or credit cards at the same time. 2 biggest reasons why bartenders get fired? They steal and they get drunk. Don't do any of these, and you'll have a good paying job for a long time. I've been at it for over 12 years...

Not without experience. They have bartending schools.

yes!!!

bartending is awsome =]]

no problem, bartending is easy apparently, who needs school for that

all you need is to be hardworking and able to cope with late shifts and pervs giving u there phone number (that applies to guys too)

can you work friday and saturday night?

Go on a bar hop, pick a favourite place and go back and ask for a job. You don't need to have gone to an expensive school to be a great bartender, if you've the right personality and can add and subtract, learn a few drinks and not be embarassed to look in your book of drinks you'll be fine.

most bars have books on drinks or a list. you have to be nice to them and flirt for tips give the regale-rs a drink every so offend smile n be quick that's it

you should probably go to bartending school for 2 weeks if you have no knowledge...and if you don't mind working 9-3 in the morning then go for it

get a server license first then start learning your basic drinks first. you know any alcohol wth coke or margaritas good luck. webtender.com has thousands of recipes

I think you start out as a server and work your way up.

Good news is you can serve or bartend in Florida even if you're not 21 yet.
