Question:

Why do darker coloured alchol drinks give you more of a hangover .?

am puzzled i get more of a hang over drinking larger than say vodka . ive been told its because of something called con something in darker beverages not sure of the correct name it starts con. i always thought it was to do with percent but carnt be

Answers:
The word is congenerics. That is the toxic stuff that is made (generated) with alcohol. It tends to be worse with "darker" drinks. That's a bit misleading though as whisky is artificially darkened.

It is mainly to do with "percent" but not entirely so.

Go with what's ok with you!

Bitter experience!

More additives which give it colour.

i am the opposite i can drink all the lager available and be fine the next day but after over quarter litre of vodka i am ill the next day

To be honest I find that lager gives me more of a hangover than bitter - so I would say that lighter coloured drinks result in the worse hangover.

Could it be due to the chemicals in the beverages?

I don't care. I like having a hangover. It's a sign of a good night the night before. I usually can't remember.

They tend to have more sugar. Sugar and alcohol in even moderate quantities can rile you with a nasty hangover.

More impurities in the darker colors.

clear drinks are purer

Its all the extra additives. Now a days some liquors are chemically made instead of being brewed. In these processes they add coloring and sugars along with some other chemicals depending on the liquor. Its these additives that help give you the hangover. thats why you will hear about vodka companies filtering their stuff 3,4, or even 5 times Using charcoal to pull all the excess garbage out of their product..

It's the chemicals they put in the lager I am fine with everything other than Bud which has more chemicals than other lager

because its heavier hic

The word you want is congeners. They are the additives in alcohol which give it colour & flavour. Because they make the alcohol less pure, it is more likely to give you a hangover apparently

generaly the darker the drink the more tannin in it this gives headaches

I am puzzled has the light ones give me the hang over.

the darker the colour the more additives
