I keep hearing that in moderation wine is good for you but?!

Question: Grape juice has all the antioxidents that wine has and none of the dangers of alcohol right? So that means wine isn't health wise all its cracked up to be? And grape jucice unlike wine won't cause a drunken state even if you drink "to much".
Does this lodgic work or am I wrong?

Red wine helps against LDL cholesterol, increases the level of HDL cholesterol (the "good" cholesterol), strengthens blood vessels, prevents blood clots, and does some other good things.

On the other hand, be wary of the calories it contains and how much you drink. One drink is considered a 5 oz. glass of wine. Hmmm... the Romans even added a substantial quantity of water to their wine to lessen the effects of alcohol. Also, they say if you're over fifty it helps your heart if you have a glass of red wine now and then.

As for grape juice, since it was made outta the same stuff, it's bound to contain most of the good things in it. Take grape skins and seeds, for example. These are responsible for more HDL cholesterol and less blood clots. They're also in grape juice.

On a final note, there's so many different studies and health trends that choosing what's right for you is becoming REALLY HARD. One tip is that you should go with what your body's telling you.

Hope that helps!

I hope that others who are curious read this and learn just a little. I hope they stop to think about that drink if they are doing for health and if there is something else that can provide the benifits. Report It

  • Wine may provide at least one benefit grape juice doesn't: Alcohol has been shown to increase levels of HDL, the so-called good cholesterol, in the blood.

But if you're a non-drinker, grape juice is a terrific way to get many of wine's potential health benefits,

I think part of the health benefit is the mild state of relaxation a bit of wine provides, as well the enjoyment people may get from the drinking experience.

Grape juice is often called new wine , a non alcoholic wine , and this is often a confusing play on words in translation.(a miss translation)
Aged wine in moderation, meaning a glass or two with a meal isn't going to harm you ,not the same as being good (beneficial) for you .

I little alcohol is good for you....

Just the antioxidants you are right.

Alcohol in small amounts has benefits as well and it doesn't have to be wine. It has the effect of turning several low density fats (the ones that stick to the walls of your veins) into high density fats which your body needs. Now it starts damaging your liver at about two drinks, and at three any benefit is outweighed by that damage.

But this is why the French who drink a lot of wine, and eat a lot of fatty food, are still able to have lower instances of heart problems.
