Any alcohol can ruin your voice if you drink it enough, just like smoking. As with everything else, it probably won't hurt in moderation. Julie Andrews ruined her voice by singing... ironic, huh?

I do not know it for a fact but have been told that the alcohol "dries" the throat of its' naturaul lubricants and yes, can cause damage. It was told to me by a nurse of 30 years. She related it to smoking and how that too dries out the throat and voice box.
