I have never tried absinthe, what should a first time drinker of absinthe buy?!

Question:

I have never tried absinthe, what should a first time drinker of absinthe buy?

I have looking at websites and looking at brands but don't have a clue what to buy.

Basically I want to feel the powerful benefits of absinthe but not be totally repulsed by the flavour.

I'm a sweet tooth, so should I go for a French one like 'La Fee Parisian' or a Swiss one where you just add water?

la fee is the best it's only 68%abv, those that are 85% are only for the real hard drinker, take it neat straight down follow it with soda water.

Paracetamol for the hangover and dioralite for the bad stomach you`ll have.

Have a sick bucket handy.

absinthe is pernod by any other name (its what we got after they banned absinthe) but its a liquorice flavour/aniseed...

never add water....

try it neat, with ice... mmm nice.

or with fresh orange juice...

enjoy.

From what I've heard of Absinthe you will need a fire extinguisher.I've also heard that regular drinkers suffer some health problems.

real absinthe is really expensive and i heard ita ileagal in the us , the real way to drink it is to add water it makes a really cool fog like visual in the glass?

Absinthe is still illegal to sell in the USA.
If you're here you'll have to have it imported (for personal use only).

.

I have tried a few brands from Prague, and they were all dark green, tasted of anise and other herbs, and were well over 100 proof. I would descibe them all as being sweet, and I don't know of 1 that is considered better than the rest

1 hospital bed and 1new liver

The One and Only Way to Dink Absinthe

1. Sugar Cubes

2. A spoon with holes in it

3. A whiskey glass

4. A matches or a lighter

This is how you do it!

A) Take the spoon and hold it over the mouth of the glass

B) Put a sugar cube in the spoon

C) Pour the Absinthe over the sugar cube into the glass until it's almost full.

D) Then light the sugar cube on fire, and let it burn until it gets golden brown around the edges.

E) Then pour a little more Absinthe over the sugar cube into the glass to put the flame out.

F) Stir the rest of the sugar cube up in the glass.

G) Add ice or drink it straight up, whatever you prefer.

Lots of good answers already, but dont forget, 'absynthe makes the heart grow fonder!!!! Have a great time

not sure what you should buy but i suggest when you drink it do it through your teeth as in clenched...or your entire mouth will burn like hell!

Absinthe was banned by the French government before WW2. Not so much because of it's alcoholic strength but because it's congenerics caused brain damage for big drinkers (many of the French in those days). I think the problem was the addition of the herb wormwood, but just
search on Google!

Other anis based drinks were/are available; Pernod, Pastis & others I cant recall.

They are all an acquired taste. None are sweet. The French way is pernod/water = 1 to 5. Ok?

As to the new absinthe, someone has obviously realised that no one owns the name.

Don't fall for it!
