Buying wine in Italy?!

Question:

Buying wine in Italy?

What are the price rangers (in USD or Lire) that a moderate to great wine would cost in Florence Italy?

Answers:
I got the best bottles for under 10 euros (thats about $13.00)! You look for local wines and then ask the seller what their fave is. It has never steered me wrong and I have never paid over 10 euro!

Enjoy!

My travels!

Expect to pay from 50-150 euros for an excellent Barolo of a recent vintage. You can buy a pretty good Dolcetto for about 10-20, though.

Italy hasn't been Lira for 5 years. It is the Euro which currently is $1.34 per Euro.

I found Italian wines to be FAR less expensive in Italy. An Excellent Barolo, in a restaurant, would be 35 Euro or less. I found good Chiantis for under 10 Euros. We found very little mark-up in general.

Good wine is inexpensive in Italy. Keep in mind, even if it is a brand you are fond of here, they keep the good stuff and export the rest!

For a refereshing and slightly sweet wine in that region, try the Ruffino Orvieto Abbocatto. I discovered it in a wonderful little restaraunt in Florence, and luckily have found it stateside as well. Not exactly the same, but still one of my favorite discoveries.
