Sure it'll make the world a better place. Tramps will sip on only the best cider, middle-aged divorced women will enjoy the finest gin etc..

The problem is that other people who drink responsibly will have to pay extra too. Wouldn't it be better to fine the drunken binge-drinking louts at least £100 everytime the police have to deal with them. If they refuse to pay....take it out of their dole/benefits/wages .

God bless America and $3 bottles of 750 ml wine that'll give you a 2 day hangover. BTW, when in doubt it's Quebec's fault. Always.

That's why I own a liquor store, That won't help believe me....

Yes, but do you know that booze is sold as a loss leader, therefore to put up prices will give the supermarkets more profit.

I think it won't make a difference. The only ones being punished are those of us that like an odd drink at home. Teenagers have always been able to get hold of booze from some where,it has been going on for years. The problem lies in their behaviour, with or without drink they seem to beyond punishment now as they have too many rights and not enough discipline at home.

No, I believe there are plenty of countries around the world with cheaper booze than the UK and they don't have the binge drinking problems experienced there.

Which means you need to look deeper than something as simple as the price and availability, why the need to binge drink, to get so drunk they can't remember what they're doing!

Unfortunately its a ineffective short term suggested solution to a much deeper problem

Yea, what about Sainsburys and Waitrose and all the other little corner shops and all? They're not involved are they? If not, then people are just gonna go elsewhere to get their booze...Plus, they can't stop people from brining in car loads of cheap booze from France or across the English Channel can they? It's still the EU!

this will just reduce people to drinking mouthwashes and other cheap intoxicants.

nope not going to work if people want it they will find a way to get it

WoW. That would be as effective as a soggy band-aid!

Alcoholism is an equal opportunity addiction. This does not just affect the poor!

Frankly, alcohol needs to be illegal and weed should be legal. The worst horror stories I have heard about marijuana involve chips and take-out.

I have never heard of any one getting baked, grabbing their car keys and going out and killing someone or themselves. Haven't heard of anyone getting baked, and picking a fight with the biggest guy in the bar, etc.

Booze can make ppl crazy, weed just makes you lazy! lol

No, but it will certainly boost the black market economy, and might put the prices up!
