I dont think i was clear enough in the question, I wanted to know specifically what chemical compound was considered to be the "drug" in alcohol. I found out that it is ethanol(ether alcohol) thank you for your responses

well, kinda sorta. I only say this because it does get you high, and no because when you say"drug" people think of drugs that are illegal. Alcohol is illegal to sell to underaged kids but that's a totally different matter.

Yes. You only have to ask a drinker why s/he drinks to know the answer. They never say for 'health reasons'. They do it to relax and feel good. Some use it in even more extreme fashions. But all of them do it for the feeling it gives them and that is why humans, in general, might use any drug, for better or for worse.
