Are there any other avid beer raters out there?!

Question: I have been rating beers for a few years now and consider myself both a beer snob and a beer teacher. I try to convert the masses to open up and discover the diversity this divine drink can offer. I see there are some other people (3 or 4) who seem to know a lot about this subject. I am currently at "Beer God" status on RateBeer.com. I don't like Beer Advocate's approach so I don't rate there, but I do like the articles. Anyone else?

I've only rated on Ratebeer and beeradvocate once, because as I was traveling home one holiday, I saw a 24oz can of malt liquor for $1.29. I bought it, it was in the car warmed up when i got home and cracked it open, and it was actually pretty damn good. It was like a belgium, all sweet, fruity, 10%abv. I rated it, because it shocked me.

Other than that, I don't rate the beers I have, I just try to drink and enjoy them. The flavors always seem to change on them anyways by the time you finish that first one, or the second. I don't feel that my tastes and how I express my interpretation of them is good enough for rating, since my perception of certain beers seems to be completely different than others, so I just drink happily with the idea that they're damn good beers.

Which made me want to ask you after I read your question, do you rate beers because you just enjoy it, or are you a beer judge? Also, what is your opinion on judging/rating a beer more by fitting its style category, as opposed to just being a damned good beer?

Beer God. Nice to meet you, oh Mighty One.

I love beer but spend my limited free time trying them.

Kudos to you for spreading the word. I use RateBeer to screen for new selections in my local specialty store.

Of more immediate concern is the current hops shortage which has me on high alert for IPA.

Well I rate my country's beers every day. All of the 2,127 brands here. I'm at 1,796 now.
I'm from Belgium, by the way.
Next stop, Germany. All of the small-town breweries. 20,503!
