Got any good alcoholic ginger beer brewing tips +/or products?!
Answers: Never tried to brew beer but told its tricky, bit of trial and error maybe. would love to brew some ginger beer.......
If you are interested in learning to homebrew, I would recommend you check out http://www.howtobrew.com and http://www.homebrewtalk.com//index.php?r... , the two best online sources for information. I would also recommend you pick up a copy of Charlie Papazian's book 'The Complete Joy of Homebrewing', this is the quintessential bible for homebrewers.
As far as equipment goes, you will want to pick up a 'starter kit' from your local homebrew shop, or online at http://www.midwestsupplies.com or http://www.autinhomebrew.com . The starter kit includes all the equipment needed to brew 5 gallons of beer at a time.
Homebrewing is not really that tricky so long as you remember to sterilize everything that comes in contact with your brew. Other than that, it's just like cooking, follow the recipe you're given, and everything will be fine.
Feel free to email me anytime if you have any further questions.
Charlie Papazian's book also has a couple of good ginger beer recipes. Of course, you can also get several decent recipes for free if you look around.
Check out www.byo.com; they have an excellent first-timers guide to brewing beer and lost of tips and recipes. You don't have to spend a lot of money either...a clean (suggest brand-new) 5-gallon bucket with a lid (with a rubber gasket), pot big enough to hold a couple of gallons, some 1- or 2-liter soda bottles and some NEW vinyl tubing from the hardware store are a setup that will work. Plus ingredients and some yeast (check for a local homebrew supply place or order online). It's really not hard, the key thing is cleanliness.
And...a woman who likes beer? You've scored points already. Have fun!
With all due respect to the previous answerers (and a lot is due), what I know as ginger beer is almost non-alcoholic (1-2% ABV). It's more like ginger ale. I make mine with lemons (zest and juice), sugar, crushed fresh ginger, water, Nutrasweet, and a dry ale yeast. It's much easier to make than real beer. Email me if you want the recipe. Of course, real beer is good too.
