Alcohol Content?!

Question:

Alcohol Content?

i made some homemade wine 3 weeks ago. the recipe was pretty simple: 56 ounces grape juice, 1 cup sugar, 1/4 gallon water and 1/4 pkg. yeast. i don't have a hydrometer to measure the alcohol content so my question is..does anyone know or have an educated guess at how much alcohol is in the wine?

Answers:
A way of making an educated guess of what alcohol content your wine is is if you know the sugar content of your grapes before you ferment them. Usually 1 Brix = 1 alcohol percentage (I think, always get Brix and Baume mixed up).

it maxes out at like 8% or so

i made something similar when I was 10 or so

kinda nasty, you might get sick from it

just save up , find a wino, pay a few bucks to him to buy some for you, like a small fee or tax

Home made win is a ify thing . You get good or bad no in between .

Checking the alcohol is a science. There is sugar in the grape juice plus the added 1 cup of sugar then the fermentation results in the alcohol providing you fermented it dry. That is without any residual sugar. Best bet would be to go to your local wine supply shop and ask them to test a bottle, or sample.

My friends and I make wine too. We use similar recipes and we make the % out to be anywhere from 10-15%. We currently have nine gallons of a new recipe in the making. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
