Whiskey and vodka?!

Question:

Whiskey and vodka?

My partner and I are having a discussion. He is convinced that whiskey hits him quicker and gets him more drunk thank drinking an equal amount of vodka (with similar alcohol percentage). He says "chemical processes". Personally, I don't feel this effect and just appreciate different flavours.

To settle this argument, who is right? Is it all in his mind or am I just drinking too much/not noticing the difference or is it a different people are effected in different ways thing? Personally, I drink more than him and think he's crazy. What about you?

Answers:
After decades of serving liquor, I can conclusively state and that Whiskey (and tequila) does have a greater affect on SOME people. Whether they get drunker I can't say but some get very belligerent and confrontational when they consume them. But it doesn't have the same affect on all people.

its all the same. one drink seems to be different because he drinks one faster than the other

Ignore his drunken ramblings and enjoy your quaff, whatever it may be.

A darker liquor of the same proof will usually have a somewhat "stronger" effect on the body.

I'm with you. I think he is crazy. Does he drink the whiskey straight or mixed? Maybe he thinks it hits him quicker if he drinks shots.

I think he's just peeved that you can drink more than he can, so this is the excuse he concocted.

It is all about who is drinking and how your body can hold the alcohol . I had a boss who has drank decades longer than me but when we worked over seas together . I found that when we got drunk I did not have a hangover and could match him drink for drink . It kinda scared me so I have cut down a lot but . Enjoy the flavors of whiskey and rum and some vodkas. hope this helped

Basically I have to agree with you - the exception is that Vodka (whether it be distilled from potatoes like the Polish people do it most of the time - or Rye - like the rest of the world distills it) is more purer than any distilled whiskey made due to the additives that are introduced into the whiskey as it is being made, - some of which are actually from those "charcoal barrels" that they age the Whiskey in. -

I'm a whiskey drinker and my wife likes vodka she weighs 125lbs. I weigh 180 and I get drunker than she does if we drink about the same amount so I would say the wiskey does have a stronger effect! when we drink beer she gets drunker faster than I do
